Mozilla Releases Firefox 4 Mobile For Android (Video)

Mozilla has just announced on their blog that they have released Firefox 4 for Android, and it is also available to download for Maemo devices, and we suspect it could end up being very popular amongst Android fans, if it follows the same pattern last week when the desktop version of Firefox 4 was released.

According to Mozilla, Firefox 4 is up to three times faster than the stock browser in Android, and it comes with major enhancements to the JavaScript engine, which is designed to make sites load faster.

Evernote Revamps Its Web App

Following on from the update to its mobile applications Evernote has today unveiled their newly revamped web app which has been redesigned with a new three panel interface, and has been designed to function in browser on either your tablet, computer or mobile device if required.

Other tweaks within the new Evernote web app include performance improvements together with a share button for easily firing off notes to others via the major social networking sites or email.

An auto save feature has also been included in the new web app, which works in a similar way to Google Docs that automatically saves as you write.

Vimeo App For iPhone, iPad 2 And iPod Touch Launched

Vimeo has launched a new app for Apple’s iOS devices, and it is compatible with the iPhone 4, iPad 2 and the fourth generation iPod Touch, and you can now upload, edit, manage and watch your videos from your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

The Vimeo iPhone app will let you capture videos, with focus control and grid alignment, you can then combine, edit and trim your videos, as well as add in a range of features like titles and also add effects to your videos.

Jolicloud Browser Update Now Allows Direct Editing Of Google Doc Files

Joilcloud has unveiled a new update to their Joilcloud browser which now allows users to directly edit Google Doc documents directly from the Jolicloud File Browser. The feature has already been enabled, but if you dont see it yet on your installation, you may need to just refresh your Jolicloud Desktop.

As with the recently added Dropbox integration this connection is persistent, meaning anytime you log into your Jolicloud either via a browser or Joli OS, your Google Docs and Dropbox files will appear automatically inside your desktop.

Skyfire iOS Web Browser Updates With Multilingual Support

The iOS version of the Flash playing mobile browser Skyfire has now been updated to support seven new languages including: French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Other features added in the new update also include a related sites service, that allows you to see other similar sites to the one you are currently viewing. The feature has been added to help out when you may encounter a site that doesn’t support the Skyfire browser completely or when you might need more information on a subject, via a simply button press.

Apple’s iOS 5 To Have Deep Voice Integration?

Apple has scheduled their WWDC for the 6th of June this year, and one of the things mentioned that will be featured at this years conference is that Apple will be unveiling the future of iOS.

The statement from Apple gives us the impression that we will see quite a few changes in the next version of iOS, which is rumored to be iOS 5, and although we have heard it may not launch until the fall, we are expecting Apple to unveil the major new features in iOS 5 at WWDC 2011.

Verizon Samsung SCH-LC11 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot Available

Verizon has announced that the cool new 4G LTE hotspot is now shipping. The device is the Samsung SCH-LC11 and it is shipping right now for $99.99 after a rebates and a new 2-year data plan agreement. The rebates include a $50 online discount and the 2-year price is $149.99.

TomTom Debuts new Pro Range GPS Devices with 5-inch Screen

TomTom has its finger into every navigation market it can get in on from the consumer to the professional drive. The latest offering in the line of TomTom devices is the Pro range with 5-inch screens. Fujitsu LifeBook AH572 3D Laptop Starts Shipping

Fujitsu has today started shipping its latest 3D laptop the LifeBook AH572 3D, which was showcased by Fujitsu earlier this year in CES 2011. The Fujitsu LifeBook AH572 is  powered by a Intel Core 15-2410M 2.3GHz CPU with Turbo Boost and Intel Wireless Display alongside 4GB DDR3 1333MHz SDRAM memory.

Its 15.6 inch 3D screen is fitted with an Xpol 3D filter providing a resolution of 1366 x 768 and it has 400nits brightness. Graphics power is supplied by a integrated Intel HD 3,000 graphics chip. Being 3D Fujitsu also provide a pair of 3D glasses for you to enjoy the new technology.

Electric Beams Can Pew-Pew Flames Out Of Existence

That’s right. Beams of electricity as a fire extinguisher. A little too Dr. Who for comfort perhaps, but it’s real boys and girls! It’s real!

A team of Harvard scientists led by Dr. Ludovico Cademartiri presented their findings for the 241st National Meeting and Exposition of the American Chemical Society. It all has to do with soot, apparently. Charge the soot particles in a blaze and the flames are diminished in a snap.

Apple WWDC Ticket Appears On Ebay

Yesterday Apple announced the 2011 World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC), and the tickets to the conference which cost $1,599 each sold out within the first 12 hours.

Now one developer has decided to sell an unactivated ticket on Ebay, and it looks like they are charging more than double the original ticket price, which is hardly fair to developers who want to attend the conference and who didn’t manage to get a ticket.

LG Smart TV ST600 Upgrader Transforms Your Standard TV Into A Smart One

LG have launched their new Smart TV ST600 Upgrader that transforms your basic TV into a smart TV adding the ability to watch Netflix, Vudu, Pandora, YouTube, CinemaNow, Hulu Plus, Amazon VOD, NHL GameCenter, NBA Game Live, and MLB.TV together with access to the Internet.

LG haven’t detailed what web video formats will be supported by the Smart TV ST600, but it will be able to be controlled by a free iPhone/Android app, which will enable text input using your phone’s keyboard. The Smart TV Upgrader is also DLNA-compliant, allowing you to stream music, photos, and videos from a connected computer.

New York Times Kindle Subscription Includes Free Web Access

Amazon has today announced that any Kindle users who have already or will in the future subscribe to the New York Times Kindle edition of the newspaper. Will now automatically receive free access to the New York Times website and be able to access content behind the paywall.

Even though the new service has been announced by Amazon, it isn’t quite ready to use at the moment, and is currently being setup by the NYT site, and a date for free access to the site has still yet to be determined.

Sony Launches Two New Headphones

Sony has added two new sets of headphones to its line up with the launch of the Sony MDR-RF865RK wireless headphone and MDR-NC13 noise cancelling in-ear travel headphones.

First up are the Sony MDR-RF865RK wireless headphones which have a transmission range of up to 100m, and features 40mm driver units which are designed to provide smooth, rich audio with a deep bass response, while wireless interference noise is reduced for a clear, transparent listening experience.

RingO Mounting System Designed For Tablets

Vogels has today announced  the launch of a new tablet mounting system allowing you to securely mount your iPad 2, iPad, or Galaxy Tab to walls brackets card dashboards all using a universal mounting bracket and case system.

The RingO consists of a precision-engineered aluminum ring that clips onto a case fitted to your tablet which then allows you to easily attached and detach your tablet from various brackets designed for easy tablet viewing in different locations. The current brackets available from Vogel include a Wall mount, Car mount, Flex mount and Sticky mounts (the wall mount with a sticky pad to attached the mount to flat surfaces).

HTC EVO 3D Android Smartphone Headed To Europe

HTC announced their latest Android smartphone in the US last week, the HTC EVO 3D, and now it looks like the HTC EVO 3D is headed to Europe according to a Tweet from HTC France.

You can see the translated version of the Tweet from HTC France, which confirms that the HTC EVO 3D will be available in Europe later this year, possibly the same time as it goes on sale in the US.

Joule Chroma Aluminium iPad Stand

Element Case have unveiled a new iPad stand today called the Joule Chroma which allows you to position your iPad in three different angles in either portrait or landscape orientation.

The Joule Chroma iPad Stand is CNC machined from a solid chunk of aircraft grade aluminium and consists of two parts. The main standing block into which the iPad sits and a leg which is pushed into one of three holes on the rear to provide the required angle.

Google Chrome OS Coming In June?

Google has been testing out its Chrome OS since December last year with its Chrome OS pilot program, we recently heard that one manufacturer, Asus is working on a Chrome OS netbook.

Now Google has been talking to the guys over at Pocket Lint, and has confirmed to them that they are getting ready to launch their Chrome OS, and we could possibly see it in quarter two of 2011, possibly in June.

Mass Effect 2 DLC ‘Arrival’ Trailer Released (video)

Bioware has today released a new official launch trailer for the up and coming DLC ‘Arrival‘ which will be available tomorrow. The new Mass Effect 2 DLC will be on all three platforms for 560 Microsoft or BioWare Points, or $6.99 US via the PlayStation Network.

Nokia Files New Patent Lawsuit Against Apple

Yesterday we told you that a judge in the patent case between Nokia and Apple had ruled, and said that Apple had not infringed on any of Nokia’ patents, now it seems Nokia has filed a new patent lawsuit against Apple.

Nokia obviously not happy with the outcome of last weeks ruling, has now filed a new case where they are alleging that Apple has infringed on Nokia patents for multitasking operating systems, data synchronization, positioning, call quality and the use of Bluetooth accessories, Nokia released the following statement.

Quadrocopter Ball Juggling (Video)

We have featured a few different videos of quadrocopters here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest one is probably one of the coolest so far, as they are being used for juggling in the video below.

As you will see from the video, the two quadrocopters are being used to pass a small white ball between each one, and when they are working alone they can also keep the ball in the air, and can also pass it back to someone who throws the ball at them.

Sigma DP2x Compact Camera Coming Next Month For $800

Some of our readers will remember the new Sigma DP2x compact camera that was announced last month, Sigma has just announced that the DP2x will be available in the US from late April and it will retail for $200.

The Sigma DP2x is the successor to the DP2, and it comes with a 14 megapixel FOVEON X3 direct image sensor, and it now comes with AFE and high speed autofocus.

iPhone 5 Not Launching At WWDC 2011?

Yesterday Apple announced the dates for the 2011 WWDC, which will take place in San Francisco from the 6th to the 10th of June, and this years WWDC quickly sold out within the first 12 hours.

As with the previous years we were expecting Apple to unveil the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5 at this years WWDC, although it turns out according to a recent rumor that the iPhone 5 will not launch until later in the year, some time in the fall.

Acer Iconia Dual Screen Notebook Hits The US

Some of our readers will remember the Acer Iconia dual screen notebook that was announced  a while back, Acer has now announced that it will be available in the US from next month.

The Acer Iconia dual screen notebook feature two 14 inch touchscreen display, each one has a resolution of 1266 x 768 pixels, and one screen can be used with a virtual keyboard and they can both be used with a range of multitouch gestures.

Sony Ericsson Releasing Android Bootloader Unlock Tool

Sony Ericsson has unveiled that they are to be releasing a new Android bootloader unlock tool later this year that will help unlock some of the new 2011 Android smartphones.  Karl-Johan Dahlström, Senior Program Architect at Sony Ericsson, explained that certain models of the company's 2011 range, including the XPERIA Play, Arc, Pro and Neo, will be offered  an open-bootloader option for flashing third-party firmware.

Intel Launches Third-Generation 320 Series SSD Drives

Intel have today announced the launch of its third generation 320 Series SSD drives based on 25-nm NAND flash memory and available in 40, 80, 120, 160, 300 and massive 600GB options.

The new 320 series SSD drives see a large performance increase over their predecessors with Intel more than doubling the sequential write speeds when compared to second-generation SSD drives. With 220 megabytes-per-second (MB/s) sequential writes and  270 MB/s sequential reads.

Amazon Cloud Player Music Streaming Service Goes Live

Amazon has beaten both Apple and Google to the finish line, and just released their own new cloud streaming music service, named the Amazon Cloud Player. The new service allows existing Amazon customers in the US to upload their MP3 purchases to a personal 5GB sized storage area in the cloud.

Once there it can then be streamed back to play on any Android phone, Android tablet, Mac or PC, to wherever the user might be.

SugarSync Updates Its iOS Apps With Remote File Management

Sugarsync the cloud sync and storage provider has today rolled out a major update to its software for both the iPhone and iPad adding a number of new features.

The update includes a new feature which now provides a remote control acces to your files. Allowing you to now organise and manage your SynarSync documents from your iOS device, and includes being able to copy, move and even delete files or folders.

Another new feature now allows you to add public links to emails on your iPhone and iPad  from your files within your SugarSync storage. Meaning the person you are sending the email and file to doesn’t require a SugarSync account to be able to access your file.

We’ve grappled with the issue ourselves occasionally, especially after the whole Infinity Ward debacle, but if Blizzard president Mike Morhaime is to be believed, apparently Bobby Kotick isn’t half bad. “I have an advantage there because I know Bobby personally and we have very long, in-depth conversations, so my view of him is not limited to small sound bites taken out of context,” is what he had to say on the matter.

Nintendo: System Update Should Fix 3DS Black Screen Of Death

This was to be expected what with a new console generation on the horizon and we’ll be looking over at the Xbox 720 with intense interest when that hits, but for right now the console failure du jour is the Nintendo 3DS’s so-called “black screen of death”. Not to worry though, Nintendo have thrown out a stock answer to the issue to calm the ruffled feathers of un3DS-ed early adopters.
