Punking isn't something that Americans see in the corporate world very often, but for European carmakers, it seems that getting punked is all part of a day's work. Mobile and online will account for the largest increase in local ad spending, nearly doubling from $11.1 billion in 2011 to $21.8 billion in five years, with a compound annual growth rate of 14.4 percent, according to BIA/Kelsey. Local advertising spending will experience a compound annual growth rate of 2.6 percent between 2011 and 2016, with revenues climbing from around $132 billion to more than $150 billion.

The Streaming Media East show in New York yesterday saw the convergence of some of the world's foremost players in the video industry. From live streaming to transcoding to broadcasting, the solutions abounded as the world of video grows at an exponential rate. Hailing from France, and soon to make a footprint in the U.S., was Mixmoov, a company specializing in video editing solutions that brought a unique perspective on what is needed in the video editing arena and how to take it there.
Media, whether old or new, social or linear, has become a complicated matter. Google insists that it is a technology company, even if its business model is based on advertising, this typically is the case for most media.
The wide-area alternative/hybrid location market is expected to exceed $8 billion by 2017, powered mainly by the installation of GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and cellular location technologies in devices like cameras, tablets and portable gaming machines, according to a new study from ABI Research. "Ultimately the volumes are in cellular handsets where hybrids of GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, MEMs, NFC, etc. will provide increasing levels of accuracy and ubiquity indoors and out, creating the perfect platform for LBS, location analytics and hyper-local advertising," said senior ABI analyst Patrick Connolly.
Since its 2004 creation in a Harvard dormitory by the infamous Mark Zuckerburg, Facebook has exploded into the center of consumer culture, serving as the primary form of communication for one in every 13 individuals world-wide. With 1 million users by the end of 2004, the world-renowned site now boasts a total of over 900 million users as of March 2012.

This summer, aside from the charges you might rack up for texting while driving or speeding (though we hope not), you may want to make sure you are not committing the sin of all sins - the summer tech crime. From Tweeting about Britney Spears joining "The X Factor" while at the beach to spending summer cooped up playing Diablo III, you might be breaking some cardinal tech laws without even knowing it.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, albeit ready to become a multi-billionaire several times over by the end of the week, must be wondering about the timing of all of the bad press about the company coming out just days before its IPO. Consider the less than flattering items that have come out in the past few weeks some of which have been self-inflicted. This includes:
Whether it's listening to Jimmy Buffett tunes on Spotify by the pool, following highlights of the Rangers/Devils playoff series at a weekend picnic, or simply downloading The Hunger Games to your Kindle Fire to enjoy on the hammock, your summer activities are sure to test Verizon, AT&T, or whoever your wireless operator is.
