It’s Coming – The iPhone 5, Will you Buy it?

Posted: 30 May 2012 10:03 AM PDT

I finally broke down and got myself the iPhone 4S, I like it well enough. My husband hates his old Blackberry so I suggested he grab one at the same time, he decided not to, because he wanted to wait for the 5. “What the heck else do you need a phone to do?” I asked him, he couldn’t answer, but he’s still gonna wait.

I decided to check and see what amazing advances I was now going to miss out on, and this is what I have ascertained so far: Aside from a rumored quad core processor, it looks like those in the know think the dock connector is going to change, (smaller, with less pins) which seems weird as the connector is almost iconic. The new iPhone will probably be a bit larger, but also a bit thinner, (the slightly curved glass rumor seems officially out the window) but do expect a slightly larger screen, say 3.9″ or 4″ instead of our current 3.5″ with a 16:9 HDTV-style aspect ratio .

The launch date is probably going to hit this fall, like September or October and my research suggests that this new iPhone will also probably include enhanced iCloud service, and better, higher resolution cameras (both front and rear) with dual flash, maybe even 4G or LTE capability, face recognition, and an iTunes wireless sync. There is some speculation that it could have an HDMI output and some improved battery life but it could also be missing the useful “home” button.

Thats about it, I can’t find anything more tantalizing than that, (and even this is all simply speculation) I guess I’m okay with the phone I have now. What do you guys think the biggest iPhone changes will be? What do you wish they were? and is everybody out there anxiously awaiting the iPhone 5?

Dell XPS One 27 announced

Posted: 30 May 2012 06:30 AM PDT

Dell has just announced the XPS One 27, where it comes in a stunning design as well as vibrant display, making it the largest all-in-one computer from Dell to date with 27″ of viewing goodness. Not only that, there are the new Inspiron One 23 and Inspiron One 20 that help do away with clutter and simplify life for family entertainment, but we will concentrate on the Dell XPS One 27 for now. Dell’s reimagination of the XPS One 27 will target those who want a beautifully designed system that paves the way for multimedia creation and entertainment.

It is said that the XPS One 27 is capable of offering a big-screen experience right in the comfort of your living room, and is one of the most vibrant displays from Dell to date. Delivering 27-inches of stunning 2560 x 1440 Full Quad HD clarity and color, it features a wide format 16:9 WLED display that paves the way for easy digital work management, viewing movies, games and photos in a crisp manner with vivid colors to boot. Not only that, you can also enjoy optional high-performance graphics from NVIDIA as well as entertainment features such as Waves MaxxAudio 4 and Infinity-branded speakers. Want to watch more Full HD movies? That’s a snap with the optional slot load Blu-ray disc drive, with optional internal TV tuner rounding off the specifications.

Sporting a really gorgeous design that some might say was taken out of a page from Apple’s design book, it extends beyond the all-in-one PC's vibrant display. This gorgeous combination of a slim, space-saving metallic silver color housing, boasts a "clutter-free" one-cord design, not to mention a wireless keyboard and mouse to make sure that the Dell XPS One 27 remains a beautiful addition in just about any room it is placed in.

Unerneath the hood, you will find a 3rd Generation Intel Quad Core processor alongside Intel Turbo Boost Technology, balancing quad core processing with efficient power use, and a quartet of USB 3.0 ports.

Expect the XPS One 27 to retail from $1,399 upwards, depending on its specifications.

Wall Switch Watch tells the time differently

Posted: 30 May 2012 05:30 AM PDT

Forget about the Tissot, Rolex or Tag Heuer, those are luxury timepieces that cost thousands of dollars, and can be passed off as family heirlooms as well. Unfortunately, they are way too formal for my liking, and you cannot really wear those with just a pair of jeans and a T-Shirt. Instead, if you are one who is way more casual, you might want to look into something different that will help set you apart – such as the Wall Switch Watch for instance.

The name itself gives the game away – it is basically a timepiece that you wear around your wrist, and toggling the switch will let you know the current time, while pressing the switch again will show you the date. This minimalistic presentation does not have any fancy bells or whistles. If you are interested, the Wall Switch Watch will retail for $150, although right now, it is for sale at a discounted price of $100.

Softbank offers smartphones with radiation detectors

Posted: 30 May 2012 05:00 AM PDT

More than a year after the Fukushima crisis hit Japan, there is still much work to be done in rebuilding that area of Japan. Having said that, with so many potentially radioactive accidents waiting to happen in an earthquake prone nation like Japan with nuclear plants dotted all around the country, what are the odds of being right smack in the middle of a radiation hotspot without you knowing it? Well, your smartphone might do more than just handle your emails, calls and text messages, as phone operator Softbank is said to start offering smartphones with built-in radiation detectors that will be sensitive enough to check out whether the area you are in is safe and free from dangerous levels of radiation or not.

Even more than a year after that, there are still segments of northeastern Japan that remain off-limits due to high radiation levels. According to Softbank founder and president, Masayoshi Son, “The threat from the nuclear accident cannot be seen by the human eye and continues to be a concern for many people, especially for mothers with small children.” Well, will this smartphone’s capabilities make you want to go out and bring home one of these puppies when it is available?
