Global sales of media tablets fell short from analyst predictions for the third quarter, but still increased by a whopping 264.5 percent compared to the same quarter last year, according to the latest figures released by International Data Corporation.
A British website reports that a Russian translation in a digital app form is now selling for £4.99. That translates to $7.77. In Britain, the e-book version of the biography sells for £12.99, which translates to $20.24. In comparison, the hardcover version of the book "Steve Jobs" is selling for $17.49 on Amazon.com. Amazon.com is also selling the version for Kindle for $14.99.
The market for consumer devices like cellphones, smartphones, notebook PCs, netbooks, tablets, digital still cameras, MP3 players, personal navigation devices, e-readers, handheld game consoles, digital camcorders, and portable media players has grown rapidly in the last few years. As these devices get slimmer with each new generation, they are seeking highly integrated system-on-a-chip (SoC) solutions that offer more functionalities in a compact miniature package with low power consumption.
Skype rolled out version 2.6 Tuesday for the Android mobile device, letting users easily send photos, recorded videos, and other files directly from the app to your contacts. The function works over both Wi-Fi and 3G data connections so users should never be disconnected from their service.
In last few years, the location-based service (LBS) market has evolved to emerge as an app for popular smartphones and other mobile devices. Hence, application stores have emerged to offer a wide variety of location applications for free, such as child tracking, enterprise, navigation, security/lawful intercept, and location-based advertising. As a result, the LBS market is now poised to grow for next couple of years.
Apple has apparently announced its proprietary AirPlay protocol will gain enhanced support for the wireless Bluetooth standard in the form of a new chip, according to Japanese blog Macotakara. During its MFI (Made For iPhone/iPad/iPod) Technology Summit 2011 in China for 2,000 members of its MFI Program, Apple reportedly said the company is aiming to expand the market for wireless iOS accessories by taking the IAP via Bluetooth (iPod Accessory Protocol) to the Bluetooth 4.0 level.
Carrier IQ, a privately-owned mobile software company that provides mobile analytics services for smartphones, is rebutting a report published late last month by security researcher Trevor Eckhart contending that wireless carriers could use the Carrier IQ software to conduct surreptitious and highly intrusive tracking of Android, BlackBerry and other smartphone users.
Google just published a repository of images representing the area where Japan was hit by a tsunami and earthquake in March of this year. Viewers in Google Earth's street view feature can now take a tour of the disaster-stricken area and compare it to what it looked like before the disaster.
