AAPL Off With Market
Stocks are falling in another low-volume session as investors await for the start of 2012 to place any large bets. Shares of AAPL are off with the rest of technology. Catalysts include iPhone upgrade cycles and adoption (see below); update to the iPad in early 2012; continued market share growth of the Mac business line; penetration in China and emerging markets; the evolution and potential re-conception of Apple TV (see below); and platforms such as Siri, mobile advertising (iAd), books and publishing, gaming, mapping and social (Ping). Shares of Apple trade at 9x Enterprise Value / Trailing Twelve Months Free Cash Flow (including long-term marketable securities).

iOS Is Killing Android On Total Device Activations (TechCrunch)
According to Flurry, there were 6.8 million iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPods) and Android devices activated on Christmas day. That's up 353% from the 1.5 million average activations a day over the first 20 days of December. And up 2.4x from 2.8 million combined activations on Christmas last year. While Flurry doesn’t break out the split between iOS and Android, Android chief Andy Rubin recently noted that Android activations surpassed 700K a day. So that leaves between 700K - 800K a day for iOS devices. It's a platform war, so this is great news for Apple. Read »

Apple has met all of the requirements for the iPhone 4S to launch in mainland China, and the handset will reportedly debut before the Chinese New Year in late January (before the 23rd). China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) finally issued the network access permit for the iPhone 4S  and was awarded the certification on December 22. The iPhone 5 Will Launch In The Fall And Be A Redesign (BGR)
Rumor has it Apple is getting ready to launch a completely redesigned iPhone for a Fall 2012 release. The new phone will feature a rubbery material on the back (a "bumper" if you will) that will connect the phone's aluminum backing to the front bezel, the glass iPhone face. The report did not mention whether or not the next iPhone will have a larger, 4-inch screen, as many have reported before. Read »

Supply Chain Suggests That Apple Will Begin TV Production In The First Quarter (Digitimes)
Apple's supply chain will begin preparing materials for an Apple-branded television set in the first quarter of next year in advance of a second or third quarter launch. Samsung was named as the supplier of the chips while Sharp will produce the displays for the new machine. The displays for the new sets will focus on 32- and 37-inch sizes initially. That's kind of small these days, no? Regardless, some say that Apple's television set isn't being held back by technology problems, it's being held back by partnerships with big content companies. 4 Products Apple Can Add In 2012 And Beyond (Seeking Alpha)
Contributing editor EFS Investment is expecting radical innovations from Apple for 2012 to re-shape the industry. Namely:
  • iTV: Not an Apple TV upgrade, a new television set that looks just like a mega-screen iMac.
  • iRadio: Something along the lines of SiriusXM satellite radio.
  • iKindle: Okay. Probably it will not be named as iKindle, but Apple is very likely to come up with its own 7-inch tablet in this year (I don't buy it).
  • iDouble: Dual-screen notebook or iPad with two active sides, each of which can be used as a screen.
One can dream. Read »
