Featured Articles When you start thinking of voice as information, anything said within the course of a phone conversation has the potential to be used. Real-time processing of voice by call centers and enterprises is poised to introduce new tools to streamline business processes and possibly cut out a lot of middleware in the world of unified communications. While Windows 8 hasn't exactly had a great start of things so far, with some users turned off by its largely tile-based approach, there are some signs that the operating system may be gaining some new fans. Microsoft reportedly killed off the tile-based concept for computers with keyboards earlier in April, and now, it's buffed up the Smart Search function by adding a natural-language search mechanism. But reports suggest that Microsoft may not be stopping there, and natural-language search may be making its way to Cortana soon. Microsoft has not issued an all clear for us to go back to surfing the web using the various versions of its Internet Explorer (IE) browser which recently was exposed as being vulnerable to nasty zero-day cyber attacks. However, Microsoft is making progress on helping IT departments mitigate the risks of being compromised. They have updated the workaround section of their original advisory on the problem. Sprint's big announcement turned out to be about high quality streaming music rather than HD voice. The carrier's moves seem to verge on desperation at this point - hoping people will get excited by shiny baubles rather than look at where the company is (not) going.
