Posted: 14 Oct 2011 08:35 AM PDT This is the Plattan from Urbanears, and it is designed to be a classic looking set of headphones. Right now, I am listening to them now, and I’m pretty pleased with their performance. The style seems to shun the rubberized look of most cushioned headphones, and the cord has a 47 inch tangle resistant fabric cord. The top is also full of fabric as well, and it really is nice. Yes, the design of the Plattan is very minimalist, and the earcups are collapsible. They fold up so they are compact to about the size of a fist. Another astounding feature is that it comes with the ZoundPlug. This is a tiny 3.5 mm plug that fits to the side of the Plattan, so you can connect another pair of headphones. Now you can share the music, but you have to be very close together. Another feature is the microphone and remote compatible with unprotected 3.5 mm standard such as an iPhone, Blackberry, HTC phone, and other compatible models. You should be able to get the Urbanears Plattan Headphones on the official site for about $60.00. It comes in many colors of black, dark grey, indigo, mocca, mustard, orange, raspberry, teal, tomato, and white. Tech Cult – We cover the latest tech news, but always with a funny twist. Telikin Computers are for families of all ages Posted: 14 Oct 2011 08:15 AM PDT I can’t believe I didn’t see this company when I was at CES last January, but Telikin has created computers that were originally made for senior citizens, but could easily be made for any person, young and old. According to their web site, Telikin has two designs. The first is the Telikin touch 18 inch touchscreen computer, and the second is the Telikin Elite, also a touchscreen. Each of them have similar features with an all-in-one design and virus resistant. They are set up for email, video chat, web browsing, Wi-Fi ready, with a DVD and CD player. They also have a custom interface with built-in apps, photo viewing thru Facebook, MS-Compatible Word Processor, Calendar with notifications, address book with easy-connect, and Adobe Flash Support. I have to admit that I like Telikin’s way of thinking, and I wouldn’t mind having one of their computer’s in my home as sort of a hub for the family. You know, a place to leave messages, maybe even give a few, quickly check email, Facebook, etc. Best of all, the kids’ grandmother could actually master it. You should be able to find out more about Telikin from their official web site here. If you want to purchase one of their computers, the Touch is now at $699 and the Elite is at $999. Griffin Technology launches the Woogie 2 Posted: 14 Oct 2011 08:00 AM PDT A while ago, we announced that Griffin Technology was creating the Woogie. For those who don’t know what the Woogie is, it is a way of storing an iPhone or iPod Touch in a furry covering so a toddler or other little child can play with it. Well, like everything in today’s society, anything that is even fairly decent gets a sequel. Therefore, Griffin Technology would like to present, the Woogie 2. So far, the only difference that I see between the Woogie 2 and the original is that the new version has one less leg. As you can see, the Woogie 2 can sit up like a little baby, while the original just flops with all six legs like an octopus. Like the original, the Woogie 2 offers a window to the touchscreen, so little junior’s sticky fingers don’t leave any prints. The Woogie 2 has an opening for a pair of headphones, and the iDevice is velcroed safe inside. The Woogie 2 is made of non-toxic materials, and it comes in colors of blue and green as well as shades of pink. It is good for ages three and up, or for any adult that needs something to cuddle. You can get it at the Griffin Technology site for about $19.99. Posted: 14 Oct 2011 06:30 AM PDT They say that the best way to get a good rest at night would be to keep your feet warm and your head cool, and since winter is going to descend upon us soon for those of us living in the northern hemisphere, it makes perfect sense to get ready for the situation – and by wearing a pair of boots too, don’t you think so? This is where the £16.99 Hot Boots come in handy, where they are perfect for you to walk around your home, especially if your pad is not carpeted in any way but instead have cold, cold concrete everywhere. Best of all is, this pair of gizmos, so to speak, need no battery power – all you have to do is pop them into your microwave oven for a couple of minutes and toasty feet are at your disposal. Of course, I am rather turned off by the idea of putting footwear in the microwave considering there are other types of food that we cook in the same piece of equipment. Doesn’t make that much sense, no? After all, would you want a literal mud-covered chocolate muffin, or bacteria from the toilet roaming around inside your microwave? At least you can be rather fashion forward with Dark Brown and Light Brown to choose from. Conference Calendar – The global conference and expo finder. Posted: 14 Oct 2011 06:00 AM PDT Lint – the bane of everyone who does laundry. If enough lint builds up in the dryer vent, and nothing is being done about it, then we’re talking about a serious fire hazard here. Good thing there are gizmos out there like the $59.95 Dryer Vent Alarm that will help the more absent minded among us ensure the dryer vent is always free of lint. In fact, according to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, up to 15,000 clothes dryer catch fire each year simply because no one bothered to clear up the amount of lint there. This device will be able to detect increased air pressure that are symptomatic of a clogged vent. This particular sensor probe can be easily installed by hand into the dryer transition hose, where it will get to work right away by monitoring the dryer’s efficiency, calculating just the right amount of blockage as well as its change (obviously an increasing figure) over time. Should a potentially hazardrous situation be detected, the 90dB alarm will sound continuously until you press the reset button – and to do that, you’d have to personally come down to the dryer, so cast away that procrastination attitude and clear out your dryer vent in the process. SteelSeries and Gunnar Optiks team up for SteelSeries Desmo Posted: 14 Oct 2011 05:30 AM PDT So we know that SteelSeries is very serious about delivering quality gaming hardware to the masses with their collection of mice and keyboards in the past, but perhaps there is a new market for the hardware company to expand their business? I guess they figured out the niche market of gaming eyewear worth looking into, having worked with Gunnar Optiks to deliver the SteelSeries Desmo. Yes sir, this particular range of eyewear was specially designed for competitive gamers not only to make them look good (I assure you, that is just a secondary byproduct of their objective), but will also help improve visual efficiency, endurance, and recovery during gaming sessions. You can opt from either one of two color options – Desmo Onyx or the limited edition Desmo Snow that sports a semi-rimless design. These glasses were specially designed to minimize peripheral distractions, thanks to the semi-rimless form factor that delivers an exceedingly broad visual field that allows the user to completely focus on the screen. Of course, the sleek frame itself will comprise of flexible twin-rail temples that are merged with adjustable nose pads so that you end up with a lightweight, stable fit, letting you worry just about the game instead of how you look and whether your equipment is able to live up to the rigors and demands of your gaming sessions. Not only that, the ultra-slim temples were created so in order for it to rest comfortably beneath a gaming headset. Users are said to be able to enjoy an immediate, noticeable visual advantage thanks to the i-AMP lens technology. Apparently, this optical lens innovation will comprise of specially formulated tint conditions which will shift the color spectrum to deliver superior contrast, detail and resolution, while the proprietary lens material ensures it remains optically pure, so that your eyes can enjoy the clearest image possible through the elimination of distortion, impurities and haze. Don’t expect these performance peripherals to come cheap though – the SteelSeries Desmo Onyx will retail for $99.99/€99.99, while the limited edition Desmo Snow goes for the same price, albeit being exclusively sold at SteelSeries.com only.
