Congressional investigators are now examining why an amendment to the GOP's draft policy on Ukraine was watered down last year just before the Republican National Convention, a source familiar with the probe told me today. The national-security representative who played the biggest role in the platform fight, JD Gordon, confirmed on Wednesday that he has been questioned by members of both the House and Senate Intelligence Committees. The House Intelligence Committee, meanwhile, pulled off a herculean feat last week: actually getting useful, and arguably gamechanging, information out of early Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page. The Atlantic's Julia Ioffe was spot-on when she tweeted that Page has mastered the art of word salad. But specific, persistent questioning from members like Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell pushed Page into a corner: he ended up disclosing details about who he met with in Moscow last year that supported information in the same "dodgy dossier" he'd been trying to discredit. - Natasha Bertrand | |
