“Bluetooth-itize” Your Docking Station Posted: 02 Aug 2012 11:57 AM PDT
Remember the first time you heard your phone's digital music on a docking station? Or in the car? Aaaaaahhhh, the clear sound was a treat for the ears. And it was so convenient to take your tunes with you, wherever. But our use for our smartphones, and now tablets, grows every day. What used to be a music and communication device is now our main browser and email checker. Not to mention what we accomplish with apps. We can't put the devices down! As cool as the days of docking stations have been, these days it is not so simple to leave your phone plugged in for hours just to hear tunes. Inevitably you need to look up a contact, play a game or check a website. Exeter Science & Entertainment (ESE) is here to solve the problem. Their CoolStream Bluetooth Receiver turns your 30 pin connector for your iPhone or iPad docking station or A/V cable into a Bluetooth docking station. Use it for iPhones, iPads, Android phones and any other Bluetooth enabled device. So yes, if your car has Bluetooth and appropriate plug, use it in the car. It has a wireless connection up to 30 feet and automatically detects 5V (home) or 12V (car) power supply. The CoolStream is available on Amazon.com for just $39.99. Keep your phone in your hand or your pad on the desk while streaming your favorite content to your dock. Just plug, pair and play with the CoolStream Bluetooth Receiver.

IRIScan Anywhere 3 helps you get your portable scanning action on Posted: 02 Aug 2012 06:30 AM PDT I have read many times that keeping track of my expenses is always a good idea – and that means writing down exactly where every single penny went. Well, that is all nice and good, but it becomes a huge headache when there are so many receipts to get hold of and store away safely somewhere. Don’t you think that life would be a whole lot easier if you could just scan those receipts once and for all? This is where I am going with the $199 IRIScan Anywhere 3. Being a battery‐powered and cordless portable scanner certainly has its advantages – it is able to let you capture paper documents, receipts, photos and more without having to have a computer in the vicinity. On a full charge, it is able to scan up to a 100 full letter sized pages, regardless of whether it is in color or black and white. Being extremely intuitive to use, the IRIScan Anywhere 3 will let you zip through a sheet of paper in the scanner, where the scanned file will then be saved on the built‐in memory (up to 512MB), although there are two other options available – to send those saved files over to an SD memory card or to a standard USB flash drive. The IRIScan Anywhere 3 will be compatible with both Macs and PCs, where it will be bundled with the Readiris Pro 14 and Cardiris Pro 5 apps. CarBot lets you have more fun with your smartphone Posted: 02 Aug 2012 06:00 AM PDT Just when you thought that the only forms of entertainment on your smartphone would be movies, music and games, along ambles the CarBot from Desk Pets International of Hong Kong. CarBots, as the name suggests, is a toy that comes in the shape of a car, and have been programmed with four interactive modes, namely Drift 'n' Race mode, Battle mode for multi-player fun, Maze mode, and Personality mode. It does not matter if you are running on an iOS-powered or Android-powered smartphone, the CarBot would still be revving to have a go! With four colors to choose from (red, blue, orange and green), you can set your CarBots to battle mode for some multi-player mayhem thanks to its built-in infrared sensors. Each CarBot can be set to A, B, or C frequency so that the control scheme would not get all wonky, and you will rely on your reflexes and wit to make clever use of the fire button so that you disable your opponent's CarBot in the process. Under Drift 'n' Race mode, you can enjoy full speed racing and drifting without having to call your insurance agent, while maze mode lets CarBots successfully navigate mazes and avoid obstacles. If things get too noisy, just set CarBots to mute. It takes around 40 minutes of charging for each CarBot to last for 25 minutes of play. The CarBots will retail for $29.99 each. Archos 97 Carbon tablet detailed further, looks good to go Posted: 02 Aug 2012 05:30 AM PDT Every day, there is bound to be news of a new tablet in the pipeline, and most of the time, these would be of the Android operating system variety. After all, the iPad from Apple gets a refresh once a year or so, and Windows 8 has yet to make a splash despite the Microsoft Surface tablet looking good when it was previewed earlier this year. Having said that, the latest tablet from the Android camp would be the Archos 97 Carbon, where it will certainly turn heads thanks to the brushed aluminum casing, not to mention having it come in a relatively svelte form factor that measures just 11.5mm thin and weighing all of 620 grams. In addition, the Archos 97 Carbon will also come with a 9.7″ IPS display at 1024 x 768 pixel resolution, letting your eyeballs enjoy a decent viewing experience along with others thanks to the amazing viewing angles that accompany the display. Not only that, there are front facing as well as back cameras thrown into the mix, allowing you to perform video calls on it while capturing precious moments that should not be forgotten on your tablet wherever you are. It will not replace a dedicated digital camera, but is ideal for moments when you want to capture something impromptu. In terms of storage, you get 16GB of internal memory, and if that is not enough for you, you can always expand it thanks to the microSD memory card slot, although there is also the option of plugging in a USB flash drive thanks to the full-sized USB host port. I know that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was just released recently with the Google Nexus 7 tablet, but the Archos 97 Carbon is not too far behind with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, although it would be nice to hear from Archos that a Jelly Bean update is on the way. Perhaps another time, no? Since the Archos 97 Carbon is a Google certified device, it will allow you to access the entire gamut of Google designed Android apps, regardless of whether it is to keep in contact over Gmail, Google Talk and Google+ (with multi-user video calling), planning your next trip with Google Maps, or simply to access your content on the 5GB of free cloud storage thanks to Google Drive. With an asking price of $249.99, the Archos 97 Carbon does seem to be a decent purchase. [ Archos 97 Carbon tablet detailed further, looks good to go copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
mophie Outride lets you capture those adrenaline pumping moments with your iPhone Posted: 02 Aug 2012 05:00 AM PDT So you are a proud owner of an iPhone, are you not? While the device is nice to look at and use, it is not exactly the most rugged smartphone out there in the market. This means bringing it along with you whenever you go skateboarding or want to perform some crazy stunts with your pair of in-line skates is not such a good idea, unless the iPhone itself has some sort of extra rugged protective case. Of course, recording your daredevil experiences would also require you to purchase a rugged camera which can be mounted onto a helmet, but why spend good money on that when an add-on like the mophie Outride costs a fraction of that money? The mophie Outride, in a nutshell, is a hardware and app solution that places the power to record and share tricks, tracks, rides, and epic moments in the hands of action land and water sports enthusiasts, but they will need to own an iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S beforehand. At least you no longer need to purchase a dedicated video camera, but rather, use the mophie Outride to record your latest daredevil exploits. Fret not for the mophie Outride’s durability, as it is waterproof and impact resistant while sporting a range of custom mounts to capture action shots in the surf, snow, dirt or concrete. Ross Howe, vice president of marketing at mophie, said, "With the ever-growing action sports market, and our success in developing ruggedized products for those rough-and-tough tech users, we felt we were ready to design and develop a product that would take the iPhone and its camera capabilities to its limits. While the action sports community has a lot of camera and video options to choose from, they weren't able to share their moments with the community in real time. OUTRIDE gives the action sports community these capabilities in a durable, compact, quality and cost-efficient way." What are some of the advantages of using the iPhone 4S or iPhone 4 alongside the mophie Outride as the action sports camera of choice? It will be able to let you review your own footage or shots, share those moments and follow others in the community, all in a jiffy – as long as there is a decent Internet connection at that point in time, that is. Available from the middle of September onwards, the mophie Outride will come in different bundles that will cost you anywhere from $129.95 to $149.95. AIRprint Fingerprint Scanner – ‘Prints’ You, from 20 Feet Away Posted: 02 Aug 2012 04:59 AM PDT I’m not sure I like the direction things are heading in. I can honestly say that I see the benefit in being able to know who’s who and where they are, but I have a problem with things like facial recognition. Maybe its not fair to say that, I suppose I have a problem with the way it can be used. Okay, I confess, I like it when it helps to catch the bad guy, and I hate it when it could be used to invade my privacy, and facial recognition is just one of many ways ‘Big Brother’ can keep track of you. Check out this new AIRprint high tech fingerprint scanner, soon gone are the days where you get your little fingers inked on a stamp pad and rolled across a piece of paper (not that I have any personal knowledge of the procedure) this scanner can actually capture your digit prints without you even knowing it, from up to 20 feet away, and it’s better than facial recognition, because it has a fingerprint database to compare the prints to, and if your prints are on file, they know who you are. Different from your average optical scanner that uses high resolution cameras to capture actual detailed images of your fingers, the AIRprint uses 2 small 1.3 megapixel cameras and a flash of light. One of the cameras catches vertical light while the other catches it horizontally and in essence, using special algorithms, creates a map of our fingerprints. To hear it be told the AIRprint scanner is meant to assist security personnel to quickly collect a fingerprint database. Once again, I’m not sure about this. How do you feel about having your fingerprints collected without your knowledge? I know that until I decide, I’m wearing my gloves. source: idairco.com [ AIRprint Fingerprint Scanner – ‘Prints’ You, from 20 Feet Away copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
