Protect Your Noggin and Stay Stylish Posted: 27 Aug 2012 01:39 PM PDT Ask anyone who knows me. I am a klutz. It is a rare day where I am free of bumps, bruises, cuts, or scrapes. If you are like me then protective gear is your friend. At some point practicality overtakes style in a quest to stay safe – unfortunately. So though fairly active I am definitely not an activity fashion statement. A Swedish company has come to the rescue for people like us though! The Hövding, what the creators term an "invisible bicycle helmet," will help you stay stylish and safe. Hövding is actually a collar. In car airbag style, sudden extreme motions trigger the inflation of the collar into a protective bike helmet. It takes about .1 second to inflate and does not interfere with your field of vision once blown up. Hövding applies constant pressure for several seconds and then begins to deflate. The off/on indicator, battery power and battery indicator lights are charged via USB. Hövding is currently only available in Europe for about $600. On the style side, Hövding also offers stylish covers for the unit to help it blend with your clothing. So if you need a bike helmet but prefer to stay stylish, keep your eye on Hövding. Samsung Electronics introduces LED square display and transparent display Posted: 27 Aug 2012 06:30 AM PDT Just what are Samsung Electronics up to these days? I know that their parent arm, Samsung Electronics, must still be mulling over the fine which they were slapped with concerning their legal battle with Apple that concluded recently. Well, just to take your minds off things for the moment would be Samsung Electronics’ latest introduction of an LED square display as well as a transparent display, and I think personally, I am far more interested in the latter than the former as it has a more science fiction feel to it. Well, the recent announcement at IFA 2012 in Berlin will showcase the availability of innovative 1:1 ratio LED square display (UD22B) and transparent display (NL22B), further accelerating the South Korean company’s leadership in the commercial B2B display market for the second half of 2012. Let us take a closer look at the distinctive 1:1 ratio square display from Samsung in the first place right after the jump, shall we? For starters, it is touted to support unlimited configurations while opening up new potential for creating immersive visual experiences. Sporting a 5.5 mm bezel-to-bezel measurement that delivers seamless installation as well as digital loop out in order to produce a single image across up to 100 displays, Samsung's 21.6" square display enables commercial users to explore limitless possibilities – whether they are involved in designing artistic video walls or otherwise. As for Samsung's maiden attempt at commercializing their first ever All-in-One transparent display, this 22" piece of modern consumer electronics which goes by the model number of NL22B is a radically new kind of product, where it is available as an all-in-one showcase which will be able to launch a new era of possibilities in digital retail design. Sporting a thin LCD panel on the front of the transparent display, it enables images and animations to dynamically interact with the merchandise within the showcase, all the while allowing passers-by to view the product without missing a beat. All three of the remaining sides are made of protective tempered glass which are enclosed by a sleek metallic frame, delivering a rather uppity appearance for the NL22B. LG TM2792 Personal TV with CINEMA SCREEN Design makes IFA 2012 bow Posted: 27 Aug 2012 06:00 AM PDT Don't you just hate it when you purchase a brand new TV, only to realize that has become obsolete by the time you unpacked and mounted in on your living room wall? The great irony about the situation is this – you got this piece of news that a spanking new TV has just been released to replace your model, watching it all from the glory of your new purchase. Well, I am quite sure that if you are one of the first few people in Europe who drop serious money for the LG TM2792 Personal TV with CINEMA SCREEN Design when it is released this September, you will not be able to run into such a situation. Basically, the LG TM2792 Personal TV with CINEMA SCREEN Design is the company's newest premier showcase that has made its debut at IFA 2012 in Berlin. It is said to be the "ultimate entertainment platform", although I am not quite sure just how true that is. The LG TM2792 will allow you to enjoy a vast array of innovative features such as LG Smart TV functionality, CINEMA 3D and CINEMA SCREEN Design, ensuring your eyes will be able to dance all over the amazing picture quality delivered via IPS technology. As for the hardware specifications (I leave the aesthetics to your judgment as you can see above), it will come with 27″ of viewing goodness at 1,920 x 1,080 resolution, in addition to a LED IPS (In Plane Switching)/3D display with 250 nits of brightness, sporting a wide 178-degree viewing angle, 5ms response time, and a pair of 7W speakers. In terms of connectivity, you end up with DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct and WiDi, D-Sub, two HDMI ports, composite, component, SCART, three USB ports to get you started, LAN support as well as two battery-free glasses which unsurprisingly, are also flicker-free. Unfortunately for the masses, there is still no word on pricing details. I suppose this is one of those moments where if you actually need to ask, chances are you are not able to afford it. What do you think – what is the next quantum leap in TV technology? [ LG TM2792 Personal TV with CINEMA SCREEN Design makes IFA 2012 bow copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Posted: 27 Aug 2012 05:30 AM PDT Granted, before I chanced upon this piece of gadgetry from the mavens over at ThinkGeek, I had absolutely no idea what a Roman Candle was. Well, I guess you could say that I have been "enlightened" by reading up on it, where this $24.99 Roman Candle Fireball Blaster will allow you to experience all the wonders of a Roman Candle – in safety, of course. It will come with a trio of light up fireballs, making it capable of shooting up to 25 feet complete with its fair share of sound effects to capture the attention of Generation Z kids. After all, the Roman Candle Fireball Blaster makes it a whole lot easier for parents to enjoy fireworks with their little ones without worrying about burning the house down, right? Using this as an educational tool is not only easy, but safe as well – all you need to do is load fireballs into the blaster, pull back and you are able to fire away up to 25 feet in the air, complete with sizzling sound effects. It is powered by a pair of AAA batteries. [ Roman Candle Fireball Blaster copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
Water Absorbing Concrete Coasters Posted: 27 Aug 2012 05:00 AM PDT Coasters are meant to help prevent nasty water stains on your expensive coffee table, and it makes perfect sense to "invest" in a little bit of extra money, after all, it is far cheaper to purchase coasters than a new coffee table, right? Assuming you are in the market for some cool coasters, what are your options? Those with a flair for design as well as practicality can look towards the £11.99 Water Absorbing Concrete Coasters. It is said that these Water Absorbing Concrete Coasters are more than capable of soaking up spillage, while looking absolutely awesome. It is made up of a non-toxic blend of ash and cement while boasting a non-stick base, making these unique coasters resemble a section of footpath right after a massive earthquake. Good thing no lives were lost in the production of this puppy, and it is 100% eco-friendly while you are at it. [ Water Absorbing Concrete Coasters copyright by Coolest Gadgets ] |
