It’s been half a century since Charles Deming taught the Japanese how to build for zero defects, and yet we still have manufacturing issues where the systems are not keeping up with the costs. It’s estimated that machine downtime costs more than a $1 a day in the industry.
However, let’s take a step back and ask the question: Can we take advantage of the cheap silicon that’s out there and return to the zero defects strategy that changed manufacturing forever?
