Even Radios are Smart

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 02:21 PM PDT

Our sources of music definitely vary. Sometimes it's our personal collection, sometimes it's streaming a radio station, sometimes it's a service like Pandora® or Spotify®. Moving back and forth between devices just to hear what you want is a pain! The time has come for a unified interface, regardless of the source.

Logitech, well known for reliable devices, launched their new line of Logitech UE™ products. The line is targeted to music fans wanting quality sound wherever they go. The Logitech UE Smart Radio provides a unified source to control your tunes, no matter the source. Power the unit on, connect to your wi-fi and the single interface allows you to access computer-stored music, online stations or music services. Save your favorite stations and playlists for one-touch access. And with an add-on app (iOS or Android) your tablet or phone becomes a master controller to access all your music sources. Take the radio on the go or in the back yard too. A rechargeable battery means up to 6 hours of wire-free playback.  The units, announced recently, are not on the market yet but expected to retail for $179.99. Preorders are being taken on Logitech's website.

So more debate over where your music will come from. Now access them easily with the UE Smart Radio. Who says we have to use different devices to access our tunes? Not Logitech!

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 unveiled

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 06:30 AM PDT

As expected, the Samsung Unpacked event at IFA 2012 in Berlin, Germany, saw the unveiling of the latest phablet from the South Korean consumer electronics giant, Samsung, in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2. This will definitely up the ante where the Galaxy Note family is concerned, where you get an even larger display than ever before (time to give your tailor a tinkle and make some changes in size to your pants pockets), in addition to a slew of other technological advancements that we will check out in the extended post.

For starters, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is a sight to behold even before it is turned on, and when you power it up, your eyes will definitely fall in love with the 5.5" HD Super AMOLED display that is touted to deliver breathtaking visuals and crystal clear detail. Boasting a 16:9 screen ratio, you are guaranteed of a cinema-like video viewing experience, making it ideal as the portable media player of choice. Sure, it might have fewer pixels overall compared to its predecessor, but that was a necessary evil in order to achieve the mentioned aspect ratio.

With the introduction of Air View, you are able to hover the included S Pen over an email, S Planner, image gallery, or video, where doing so will let you preview the content without having to open it. Talk about efficiency, and that would also mean less burden on your monthly data plan if you are not subscribing to unlimited data.

There is a Popup Note feature that extends the concept of Popup Play, where you can open an S Note instantly as a pop-up window, anywhere you like on the screen, giving you the opportunity to jot down a quick note as well.

Underneath the hood lies the muscle of a 1.6GHz quad-core processor complete with HSPA Plus or 4G LTE connectivity (depending on the market you are in), with Android 4.1, Jelly Bean running right out of the box. Depending on your budget, you can choose from 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB capacities that can be further augmented using a microSD memory card. Fret not about juice, as the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will boast of a 3,100mAh battery that ought to last quite the distance through a day's worth of heavy duty use.

At the back lies an 8-megapixel shooter, while the front has a 1.9-megapixel camera that also does HD video recording. You can choose from Marble White or Titanium Gray colors, where the Galaxy S2 is set for an October release in major European, Asian, and Middle East markets. Pricing details have yet to be disclosed.

HP ENVY x2 could fool some into thinking this is a MacBook Air

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 06:00 AM PDT

If you are part of the Apple camp, you would most probably say that the MacBook Air was the catalyst for the PC camp to come up with the super slim and sexy Ultrabook. Here we are with one of the latest creations from HP's camp, which is known as the HP ENVY x2. It is definitely a looker, I will give it that, and if you ever asked yourself the question of whether to tote around your notebook or your tablet to a given destination with just one choice, then you need not answer that question any more if you happen to pack a HP ENVY x2 in your backpack. I will let you know why right after the jump.

To keep up with the Joneses, the HP ENVY x2 will sport a sleek aluminum finish as well as an innovative hinge which has magnets, allowing you to glide the tablet smoothly into place, while keeping it there. Tipping the scales at a mere 3.1 pounds. If you separate the tablet, that particular portion will weigh a mere 1.5 pounds. Surely you will not complain any more about sore shoulders whenever you hit the showfloor at events and shows like CES?

Thanks to the inclusion of Windows 8 as its operating system of choice, you are able to interact with the HP ENVY x2 directly through its 11.6" HD touch display. Whenever you want to share a video or a presentation with others, the extra wide viewing angle will make that a possibility, and so too, does its bright 400-nit In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel deliver a visual experience that will not be forgotten too easily, be it indoors or outdoors. Want to keep in touch with family and friends from near and afar? Fret not, the HD webcam located at the front bezel will be able to cater for all your video call needs, while there is an 8-megapixel camera located at the rear of the HP ENVY x2 which will record great looking photos and shoot memorable videos.

SSD is used in favor of a hard drive, while the inclusion of NFC connectivity helps bring it to the next level of computing. You will be able to find the HP ENVY x2 in the market as soon as Windows 8 arrives, which should be sometime at the end of October.

Scalp Stimulating Hair Rejuvenator

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 05:30 AM PDT

We've seen a Hands Free Hair Rejuvenator in the past, but that model was a whole lot more expensive than the $219.95 Scalp Stimulating Hair Rejuvenator that you see here. I would say that this model is definitely not as space age as the previously mentioned device, as you will need to keep your hands occupied as you massage it through your scalp to promote healthy hair via deep-pore cleansing, whether you are in the shower or standing right in front of the bathroom mirror. I would say that in these times of economic hardship, it makes perfect sense to cut back on a few hundred dollars' worth of expenses which could be better invested elsewhere, while you get a little bit of extra exercise for your hands.

The pulsating brushes on this waterproof Scalp Stimulating Hair Rejuvenator will help purge your scalp of oils and impurities, at the same time stimulate circulation to deliver healing nutrients to hair. It has even undergone the purview of the American Academy of Dermatology, which realized that effective cleaning of the scalp will do its part to remove oily buildup – a key factor for healthier, better-looking hair. When you use it in tandem with the included massaging brush, the device will relieve tension around the scalp, help reduce stress and mitigate the effects of headaches. Charging it offers diminishing returns however, where it takes two hours to juice it up, resulting in just a quartet of five-minute treatments. What gives?

Boombotix Bluetooth Street Speaker

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 05:00 AM PDT

Do you remember the singer Shaggy with his mega hit many years ago, Mr. Bombastic? Well, that certainly set off a trend in speak-nging (speaking/singing, you heard it here first!), and I guess that "better late than never" applies to the Boombotix Bluetooth Street Speaker. The Gunmetal Grey and Purplex Purple colors will retail for £49.99, while those who want something different can settle for the Camouflage and Carbon Fiber make up which will cost you 10 quid more, that is £59.99. So, what can the Boombotix Bluetooth Street Speaker deliver in terms of performance?

Touted to fuse urban style with quality audio, the Boombotix Street Speaker relies on Bluetooth connectivity to hook up to your media playback devices. You can clip it to your belt, slip it in a bag or hook it up to a bike, and voila – here you are, a veritable, walking library of tunes that you can share with the rest of the world. Of course, who are we to stop you from just leaving it perched on your desk? That'd be defeating the purpose of its existence though, as if you settle for the latter, you might as well purchase a more decent set of desktop speakers.

Offering up to 8 hours of non-stop audio playback, the battery requires approximately a full hour to recharge. It is also showerproof, and despite being wireless, an aux input is there just in case you have non-Bluetooth devices that want to share the music love.

Wireless Sensor Tags to the Rescue

Posted: 31 Aug 2012 04:12 AM PDT

Alarms and alerts have become a necessity in our ever changing lives. House alarms, car alarms, key finder alerts, “hey you left the refrigerator” reminders, “someone let the cat out” alert. Face it, alarms and alerts provide peace of mind and protect us and our loved ones. Wireless Sensor Tags developed by Cao Gadgets LLC, would like to help in this process.

Wireless Sensor Tags are tiny, battery powered devices that detect changes in temperature, location or angle. Connect the Tag Manager to power and your router and it will locate up to 255 sensors within 200 feet. Then the fun begins.  Download the app for your smart device (iOS or Android) and  you will receive continuous updates – via email, tweet or smart device – of temperature changes or movement in the sensors. Also, they detect changes in angle. All of this enables you to monitor just about anything from anywhere in the world! Temperature of the refrigerator, whether the garage door is up or down, whether the dog is in or out. Name it! Another perk is the lost item finder. Activate the feature on the app and the sensor will beep constantly until moved. So attach one to your keys…or your mind before you lose it! And you  set the  frequency or type of alert you receive. So you can always know if your front door is open but don’t have to get notices worry if the cat sneaks out.

Personally this is one of the coolest things I have reviewed in recent memory. The uses are really limitless. And for the minor investment – just $69 for the Ethernet Tag Manager and $15 per Wireless Sensor  it is somewhat of a no brainer to protect your valuables.  Fortunately or unfortunately the demand has outpaced supply. But production is in full swing and you an expect September ship dates. So think about what is important in your life. And consider the benefits of always knowing what happens when you are away.
