Microsoft Reboots Hotmail As Outlook, Adds Features (Various via Scoople) Microsoft launched Outlook.com and killed Hotmail this week. The new cloud-based email service aims to take on Gmail with integrated Skype video calling. It cleans up the traditional inbox user interface and adds several social networking features to the mix. Surprisingly, Hotmail still has over 325 million monthly active users. According to analysts, it appears at first glance more evolutionary than groundbreaking.

Read » Meet The Man In Microsoft's Gaming Rear-View (CNN Money) In an interview with John Patrick Pullen, OnLive founder and CEO Steve Perlman talks about being a threat to Xbox. His company was listed on a leaked Microsoft memo from 2009 as a threat and an acquisition target. In response, Perlman thinks that a lot of people have seen OnLive as a very bellwether technology, and potentially see the company as extremely strategic. He says he's a game-changer, figuratively and literally. OnLive could fit with a number of different company's strategies and also disrupt company's strategies. It depends how large and how nimble the company is. Well, that might rule out Microsoft.

wrapped Windows 8 and declared that the operating system has met the "release to manufacturing" milestone. Michael Cherry, an analyst with Directions on Microsoft says, "it's just the first step." While it is a major mark in Microsoft's development process, it signals that the completed code is ready to send to computer makers, other hardware partners who need to test their device drivers and software, and to outside developers working on compatible programs. And OEMs will have 10 fewer days to get Windows 8 on new hardware than they did three years ago with Windows 7.
