Smarter Utility - AT&T Plays Vital Role in Support of the Smarter Utility


The concept of the smart grid is gaining attention as more companies and municipalities focus on the importance of energy efficiency. It certainly helps to propel the issue forward when giants in the industry are on board with new innovations. AT&T (News - Alert) is embracing the smart grid and recently shared its intentions with Pipeline.


Ed Davalos, director of Product Management for Utility/Smart Grid solutions with AT&T Business Solutions, shared in this Pipeline report that the telecommunications giant is relying on wireless technology to help modernize the electric grid in the U.S. The company is focused on using machine-to-machine (M2M) technology to enable the implementation of the smarter utility.


This move also helps to streamline business processes, while providing companies and utilities with the ability to monitor energy assets in real-time. Gadget lovers rejoice! LaGuardia Airport has added electric outlets to roughly every other seat in the seats by all the gates. The electric outlets sport a glowing blue light that draws gadget lovers like moth to a flame. It was so annoying when I previously came to LaGuardia airport and had to struggle to find an outlet to plugin.
