I have too many clouds in my life. Don't you? I'm not talking about bad days, but the proliferation of cloud storage service offerings since cloud has become the “Next Big Thing.”
In the beginning, I started off safely enough with Windows Live Mesh. It works seamlessly in the background of Windows 7 once it is configured to sync files between PCs and "the cloud," will share program setting between Internet Explorer and Microsoft (News - Alert) Office, and you get 5 GB of free storage on Microsoft's SkyDrive cloud.
Then I wanted to share documents and pictures between my Android phone and my desktop(s). Dropbox (News - Alert) seemed to be an easy enough solution if I wanted to push files between my phone and a Windows PC quickly. Dropbox clients work relatively seamlessly on multiple platforms, including Windows, Android (News - Alert), Mac, and iThings (iPhone/iPad). The company offers 2 GB of free storage, and you can get that up to 8 GB if you get enough people to sign up. Moving around files is as easy as drag and drop, but there's no auto-sync going on.
My broadband cable provider, Cox (News - Alert), offers 5 GB of free drag-and-drop storage and automatic backup onto its cloud through Windows and Mac -- no iThings or Android yet supported. If I want more storage, I can pay for a faster broadband connection with unlimited storage at highest speed tier.
