Ripple makes commercial crypto application breakthrough US-based fintech firm Ripple has announced the commercial launch of its cryptocurrency-based cross-border payment solution.
The firm has said its transfer solution, dubbed xRapid, will be used by money transfer providers Mercury FX and Cuallix, along with Catalyst Corporate Federal Credit Union, a wholesale cooperative of financial services institutions that delivers services to 1,400 credit unions across the US.
xRapid uses XRP, a cryptocurrency on the XRP Ledger network and commonly associated with Ripple, as a bridge between various currencies to allow payment operators to process cross-border transactions faster.
The development signals one of the first commercial use cases of cryptocurrencies.
