iNuke Boom – Really Big Sound for your iPod

Posted: 26 Jun 2012 09:30 AM PDT

First I need to call your attention to the tiny white rectangle in the upper left quadrant of the above picture… That’s an iPhone, and the rest of the picture is the speaker dock. Yes, I agree, a picture that included a small car might have brought the whole size thing into a bit more focus, but we work with what we have. Suffice it to say, this thing is huge.

This enormous speaker system measures a ridiculous 8 feet wide by 4 feet tall and weighs in at more than 700 pounds. This steroidal system offers up a deaf defying (yes, that was on purpose) 10,000 Watts and over 130 decibels of mind numbing, chest thumping power. The threshold of pain comes it at around 120 decibels, just thought you should know.

The dock comes equipped with a 30-pin connector on top of the unit that allows you to connect your iPhone or iPod touch and, luckily, in case there isn’t enough room to connect your iDevice, the speaker also has Bluetooth connectivity in order to play your audio selections wirelessly from any iPhone, iPod touch or most other Bluetooth compatible devices.

Look inside this gigantic monster dock and you will find a 3-way system with two 18-inch sub-woofers, dual neodymium mid-range woofers, and two titanium-diaphragm compression drivers for pumping out the high notes (think glass breaking). Look closer, and you’ll see me living in it, with a $30,000 price tag I’ll have no choice. While not yet listed on the Behringer website, it is technically available… I may need to wait for the iNuke Boom 2… maybe the prices will come down a bit.

G-Technology has a bunch of new USB 3.0 storage solutions

Posted: 26 Jun 2012 06:30 AM PDT

If your desktop computer or notebook has at least one USB 3.0 port, then you might want to start making the most out of it. I am talking about getting a device which is compatible with the USB 3.0 port itself, and most of the time, something in this vein would come in the form of a portable storage solution. Enter G-Technology with their new range of USB 3.0 storage solutions that are said to be able to deliver speeds which are 10 times faster compared to USB 2.0, and half a dozen times faster than FireWire 800. Basically, this would translate to (in theory, anyways) that you can transfer a couple of full-length movies from a G-Technology USB 3.0 drive to a computer in a matter of minutes.

Let us take a closer look at what the G-Technology Mobile Family is able to offer – starting off with the G-DRIVE slim that is perfect for just about any notebook user. As its name suggests, the G-DRIVE Slim comes in an ultra-slim form factor that does not skimp on style either, boasting a high-performance USB 3.0 interface as well as a thin design. It has a lightweight aluminum chassis that offers up to 500GB of storage space, and does not need any external AC power supply. Expect the 500GB G-DRIVE slim to retail for $109.99.

As for the
G-DRIVE mobile and G-DRIVE mobile USB 3.0, they will feature versatile USB 3.0, FireWire 800 and FireWire 400 interfaces, although the mobile version carries USB 3.0 only. Regardless, both models will come in 1TB, 750GB and 500GB flavors, and are bus powered, retailing for $189.99 and $159.99 for the 1TB model, with the more expensive one being the version with FireWire support.

Those who want something that takes up less space can settle for the G-DRIVE mini, where it boasts a 2.5″ 7,200 RPM hard drive alongside an all-aluminum enclosure that ensures your precious data inside remains protected from knocks and bumps, and it can be USB 3.0 or FireWire bus-powered. You can pick it up in 750GB and 500GB capacities for $169.99 and $159.99, respectively.

Any takers?

QR Code Tattoos – it was Just a Matter of Time

Posted: 26 Jun 2012 06:24 AM PDT

Have you guys noticed QR codes turning up everywhere. Whats with these little suckers? They are on my groceries, newspapers, fast food packaging, they can be seen in shopping malls, on posters and on postcards. I guess we should have known it wouldn’t be long until someone started inking these codes onto their bodies.

Check out what may be the worlds first QR Code Tattoo, no longer are you stuck with a single image of the skull and crossbones you got in college, with a QR tattoo you can change what your body art links to, every single day, or simply animate your tag, by linking to a cartoon that imparts movement to your still life, make your skull sing, or that rose on your shoulder blade bloom.

The process is simple enough, tattooed in the location of your choice in the same way any other tattoo would be created and the QR codes function just as you would expect, allowing you to point your scan to anything you would like… a stock market ticker, breaking news report, social media status, joke of the day, or maybe just a picture of a different tattoo du jour… that could be ironic.

I suppose QR tattoos are slightly interesting, and I guess if I had thought about it, I would have realized they were coming, but then I wondered if there could be some real usefulness here, could doctors someday scan our tags for medical histories in case of an emergency? or could we permanently be marked with our identification or blood type. Will QR tattoos become commonplace or is this just a passing fad? Check out what most consider to be the first ever QR code tattoo HERE.

Rokform is a golf-specific iPhone 4/4s case mount

Posted: 26 Jun 2012 06:00 AM PDT

I know, I know, most of us who own an iPhone or the iPhone 4S would definitely want to make sure it remains in pristine condition for as long as possible. After all, there is always the possibility of selling your iPhone away to someone who does not mind adopting technology that is one generation old, when the next version of the iPhone rolls out (tipped to happen sometime later this year). Well, Rokform has had its fair share of cases released for the iPhone in the past, but this time around, they achieved a first in the industry – with the golf-specific iPhone 4/4s case mount.

Just what does this Rokform case do? For starters, it is able to record golf swings on and off the course. The whole idea of this iPhone case is part of a collaborative effort with PGA Tour professional players and instructors, and Rokform believes that they have produced what could possibly be the best product in the world of golf swing video analyses.

Known as the Rokform Golf Shooter for the iPhone 4/4s, you can just get started right away, mounting your iPhone 4/4s in order for it to start recording steady swings, regardless of whether you are on or off the course. The Golf Shooter is able to stick into the turf, leaving the iPhone 4/4s securely mounted thanks to the included award-winning Rokbed v3 protective iPhone 4/4s case.

Bob Townsend of San Diego Golf Institute, said, “I use the Rokform Golf Shooter as part of my regular teaching program and my students can use it out on the course. I can see what is going on with their swings in real world settings. As a golf game improvement tool, I have not found anything better, or easier to use in my 20 years of teaching.”

The Rokform Golf Shooter is said to offer pros and amateurs a similar chance to review their golf swings without the need for any expensive equipment. It makes perfect sense if you want to start reducing your scores on the green, and it can be awkward using some other equipment to record your swings, so why not let someone help you achieve this in a far more professional manner? Not only will it help you save thousands of dollars, this Rokform offering costs less than $130, now how about that?

Bicycle Rearview Camera

Posted: 26 Jun 2012 05:00 AM PDT

If you are someone who loves cycling, then chances are you would have your fair share of cycling gear. The thing is, being on a bicycle is green and all, but it is not exactly the safest mode of transport to work and back home out there, considering how many accidents there are which happen to cyclists due to motorists who did not take heed of proper road rules and drive around carelessly. Basically, whenever you cycle, it would be prudent to always look behind from time to time to make sure no one creeps up on you – whether it is on two wheels or four.

This is where the $179.95 Bicycle Rearview Camera comes in handy, where it can be mounted onto a bicycle that will offer you a clear view of what is right behind you. The camera which measures 2.25″ x 1.5″ will be mounted on your bicycle’s seat post, where it offers a rear-facing 75º field of view that is perfect for you to check out whether there are any approaching vehicles or other cyclists. A 3.5″ TFT color monitor is capable of fittings bars up to 1.25″ in diameter, sporting a quick-release mechanism that allows you to remove the monitor in a jiffy from handlebars for charging purposes. I suppose it makes sense to remove this whenever you park your bicycle as well, as it might not be there any more when you finish work and want to take off on your bike.
