We see a lot of members that are confused about hosting and domains. We hope to help clear up that confusion in this issue of Tips and Tricks.
When you purchase a domain name, you are securing just the name used to point to your website; there are no additional features. A domain name from Bravenet.com is $8.95 a year and can be used with both free and pro hosting. Domain nameservers can also be changed to point to other website hosts; like Jigsy.com.

If additional bandwidth, storage space, and other resources are needed, you can choose to double or triple the basic resources while renewing or upgrading. A free domain name is included with Professional Hosting when you pay for a year or more at the same time.
If you choose not to purchase a domain name you can use a free bravehost sub-domain with Professional Hosting. A domain name and Professional Hosting is required to take advantage of the custom email address feature. Also note that once you purchase a domain name you can no longer create bravehost subdomains, but you may create unlimited subdomains of your domain name (on both free and pro hosting).
Often members use Domain Names and Professional Hosting together, and we think this is where it gets confusing. They are two separate services that compliment each other, but don't necessarily need each other to work. Renewing your Hosting does not renew a domain name and vice versa. The two don't always expire at the same time either. It is important to note the expiry date for both of these features to make sure they are renewed on time. Forgetting to renew a domain name can result in losing that domain name forever.
