Google fixes Flash Player security hole in Chrome

Posted: 26 Mar 2011 04:58 AM PDT

We wrote about latest security hole in Adobe Flash Player and how it can affect users on various platforms. In order to provide their users with better security, Google has fixed this exploit in Google Chrome, making it safe once again.

Flaw in Adobe Flash Player has affected many users, but it appears that Chrome users are safe unlike users of other browsers that will have to wait for Adobe's official solution – that should be released soon. If you're wondering how has Google managed to fix this problem for its users, the answer is quite simple. As you know, Google Chrome comes with Adobe Flash Player preinstalled, and therefore, Google has access to new builds of Flash Player. So if you're using the newest Chrome with preinstalled Flash Player, you're safe from this exploit, but if you're using any browser with stand-alone Flash Player, you're still vulnerable to this attack.

It's great to see that Google has fixed this problem in its browser, and we're hoping Adobe will release an official fix soon.

Sprint announces Drive First application for Androids

Posted: 26 Mar 2011 03:09 AM PDT

Vehicle accidents are frequently caused by drunk drivers and car distractions. The new laws regarding cell phones being used in cars depending on where you live have been put into effect in many different ways. Sprint has announced a new application for Android phones called “Drive First”. This application sends all your phone calls directly to voice mail and all your text messages are auto responded saying that you’ll get back to them later. The application prevents you from using the cell phone while you are driving, it detects if you are in a driving car. We aren’t sure if it’ll lock your phone in a moving train or bus but somehow it detects how you are driving. This feature is available for a charge at $2 per month and parents of teenagers learning to drive should take advantage of this if they want to protect their child from distractions while driving.

Posted: 26 Mar 2011 02:53 AM PDT

Yesterday marked the tenth year of existence for Apple's Mac OS X operating system, billed by many as the world's best operating system. The first release, billed as Cheetah, was given to the world on 24 March 2001. The new operating system got off to a somewhat rocky start with lack of hardware support and some severe bugs but since the developers have produced polished releases time and time again.

The incorporation of Job's NeXt company and OpenStep technology and subsequent introduction of OS X into the computer world set into motion some serious innovation that has brought UNIX-based computing into the homes of millions and made the lives of hardcore computer users all the more simpler and fulfilling. Since the initial product release Apple has followed up with a steady stream of improvements to usability and has added tremendously to its feature set. Developers of computer software have greatly appreciated the product line, too, as it's given them an excellent platform to develop applications on.

So, as we celebrate OS X's tenth year what's coming down the pipeline? What innovations can we look forward to coming out of Cupertino? Only time will tell but we can at least look forward to better versions of iOS and the Lion release of OS X towards summer of 2011.

Let us know how OS X has had an impact on your life over the last ten years.
