Latest Featured Articles Last week, Citrix released GoToMeeting Free, a WebRTC-based video chat service that can connect up to three users with HD video and audio conferencing capabilities for up to three users. I caught up with Phil Chambers, who runs product at Citrix and was CTO of Podio before Citrix acquired the cloud-based collaboration service in 2012, to talk about the move, why it decided to work with WebRTC and we can expect to see from this experimental product. When with its first edition Alan Johnston and Dan Burnett committed to continually update their book, WebRTC API and RTCWEB Protocols of the HTML5 Real-Time Web, it felt like exuberance. With the second edition of the book, their promise gained credibility, and with the just-published third edition we see that their commitment is not only solid, but also practical. WebRTC is poised to change the contact center. It will lead to a better user experience for both agents and customers. In fact, WebRTC can already be found in many contact centers today. The Web is a vastly different landscape compared to yesterday. Instead of static pages, intricate code has enabled businesses to put themselves, both literally and figuratively, right into their home pages, all with different ways to access information and yes, even speak to someone straight from the Web. The market for videoconferencing and telepresence in general has been on something of a rise, as more companies realize the value of being able to communicate with remote locations while not actually having to travel to said locations.
