DCN Delivers One Seamless Package for M2M Application Management, Enablement

Although there have been some great developments in connected applications, we’re still in the early stages of the Internet of Things (IoT), and the machine to machine (M2M) space is already really fragmented. There are service providers, vendors, manufacturers, enterprises, carriers, MNVOs, developers and more, all working together to bring M2M functionality to different industries all over the world, but sometimes you just really want and need a single, seamless way to manage it all.

That’s where DCN comes in. Device Cloud Networks aims to provide next-generation services that support the growing demand for connected devices worldwide, and approaches the M2M industry with a unique architecture and business model. Roger Dewey, executive vice president of DCN, explained that unique strategy to M2M Evolution this week.

The Industry Problem

Before diving into DCN’s approach and platform, Dewey explained the challenge in the industry today. Take a car company – automotive is one of the hottest industries in the Internet of Things, and connected cars will only become more embedded and integrated with M2M technology over the years. To do this, they need to integrate application layers into different unique platforms around the world depending on the carriers and M2M platforms in different locations. So, in the U.S., a company might work with AT&T and therefore have to integrate into the Jasper Wireless platform, or in Europe, it might use Vodafone and would integrate with the Vodafone M2M platform, and so on. Each requires unique and multiple integrations and each platform has its own workflow, requiring IT to keep up.

The problem with this scenario comes into play with manufacturing and logistics, and managing these platforms post-production. There will be a SIM card for each operator, and the manufacturing  process has to make sure the right SIM cards are placed in the right car based on where it will be shipped, what operator it will be running on and what platform it will be integrated in...Read More
