In what could result in the biggest tech deal in history, semiconductor company Broadcom has made an offer to buy Qualcomm for a whopping $130 billion. The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) is best known for the world's largest trade event, but the organization's reach is growing far beyond the CES show in Las Vegas. Recent events in France and Netherlands along with the launch of an international innovation rating scale highlight the steady growth of consumer technology worldwide. The term moonshot encapsulates the spirit of technological achievement: an accomplishment so ambitious, so improbable, that it's equivalent to sending a manned mission to explore the moon. Cisco's trail of acquisition tears over the decades includes the Flip video camera, Cerent, Scientific Atlantic, Linksys, and a couple of others. The BroadSoft deal is being spun as a move to capture more SMB business and move Cisco's UC strategy move to the cloud. Given Cisco's historic #Fails in the SMB market, I can't see BroadSoft bring a whole lot more to the table. Especially since Cisco Spark didn't. Amazon Key, which lets delivery people drop Amazon package inside Prime subscribers' homes, will be available in 37 U.S. cities starting Nov. 8.
