However, the second, part of the presentation is what I am writing about today because it addressed a topic I have been seeking to understand: the home gateway. Now when I think about M2M, most of the time I am in the industrial verticals such as medical, telematics, transportation, supply chain and logistics. These are the areas I think are the most compelling for ROI today. However, when it comes to the home, I start to wonder, who is going to manage my future? Oleg Kustovkowsky of Oracle (News - Alert) pointed out that the smart meter is in need of either a sister device or it is going to loosely be coupled to an “integrated home gateway.” Now, Oracle pushed the aspect of this as being secure and reliable, which makes sense since Java is now in the company’s portfolio...
