Independent video game development studio Double Fine Productions shouldn't have any problems keeping its latest project under budget. Looking to begin development on its upcoming title, the San Francisco-based company took the project to crowd-funding site Kickstarter earlier this month and now finds itself up to its forehead in cash. With nearly three weeks still remaining, Double Fine Adventure has already received more than $2 million in donations, an astounding 500 percent above the studio's initial goal of $400,000. On the current pace, Double Fine may have as much as $4 million to spend developing its point-and-click adventure game.
Philips, a Dutch electronics manufacturer, is officially teaming with the police in regards to an alleged cyber attack that happened earlier this month. Philips said on Feb. 14 that some of its small websites used for marketing might had been hacked and within an hour of discovery the server was shut down, as reported by Reuters. The electronics manufacturer then went on to say that it was investigating the nature and extent of the information that might have been accessed.

As users begin posting more rapidly to social networking sites, designers can get instant feedback on their designs and use followers as a database for invites, comments, and to improve popularity. However, experts say that Milan, which boasts one of the largest fashion bases in the world, is behind in the area of fashion technology.
PeopleString is a relatively new company, established in 2009 and designed as an interactive social portal with a social affiliate program. The company developed and operates the social networking side of the portal that allows users to generate their own funds by viewing affiliate banners. PeopleString announced that it would expand its services by adding a new program called Social Dashboard.
In what amounts to a vague, difficult-to-enforce honor system, the White House on Thursday unveiled a new "Bill of Rights" aimed at protecting users' privacy when online.
Numerous sources, including an informative piece on DroidForums.net, are saying that by the end of this year (think Christmas time), Google will be making commercially available an Android based heads-up display (HUD) pair of glasses. As reported the development effort is supposedly an "experiment," but it is being overseen by Google co-founder Sergey Brin and engineer extraordinaire Steve Lee.
Hewlett-Packard (HP) has issued dismal first quarter financial results. The world's largest personal computer manufacturer reported that first quarter (1Q) revenues slid seven percent to $30.7 billion, compared to $32.3 billion in 1Q 2011. Quarterly income fell, too, down sharply to $1.47 from $2.6 billion in the prior 1Q. Adjusted quarterly profit numbers beat analysts' expectations, however. FactSet Research had predicted 87 cents per share earnings, while HP's accounting-adjusted per share earnings came in at 92 cents.
In a move with widespread ramifications, California on Wednesday inked a deal with the six largest mobile Web providers to create the first real privacy policy standards for mobile apps.
