| Google Launches Gmail Motion (Video) Posted: 01 Apr 2011 09:20 AM PDT Google has added a new feature to Gmail, called Gmail motion, and according to Google the keyboard and mouse are now outdated technology, so you can now control Gmail with a web camera and some funny hand motions. Have a look at the video below, to see the new Gmail motion in action, you can also see some of the Gmail hand gestures below which will let you perform a range of functions within Gmail.

| T-Mobile Sidekick 4G Coming April 20th Posted: 01 Apr 2011 08:47 AM PDT T-Mobile announced the Sidekick 4G last month, and now it looks like it will be available in the US later this month, from April the 20th according to a recent Tweet from @radioshack. We already knew how much the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G would cost, as the pricing was announced but we didn’t have an exact launch date. The Sidekick 4G will retail for $99.99, and this price includes a $50 mail in rebate and is subject to customers signing up to a new two year contract with T-Mobile.

Audi has announced that it has teamed up with a bicycle marker called Renovo Hardwood Bicycles. The result is a trio of Audi inspired bicycles that combine luxury and performance dubbed duo.

Cellular South is the largest privately held wireless carrier in the country and will sell the Xoom for $599.

| Nokia Releases Symbian Source Code Into The Wild Posted: 01 Apr 2011 07:21 AM PDT As Nokia moves away from its Symbian software, it has now released the last version of the Symbian Source Code together with tools and utilities for other developers to pickup and see what can be achieved. The Symbian Source Code is now available under an open source licence to development partners, which is hoped will keep development strong. Even after Nokia has now decided to partner with Microsoft and use Windows Phone 7 on its devices in the future, as Nokia’s primary smartphone operating system.

| Kinect Equipped Quadrocopter Creates Real-time 3D Maps (video) Posted: 01 Apr 2011 06:44 AM PDT MIT have created a flying quadrocopter equipped with a Microsoft Kinect device which is capable of mapping in 3D its surrounding environment, creating a real-time visual odometry system. The quadrocopter uses the Kinect device to help it calculate accurate estimates of its 3D trajectory. By matching features from successive camera frames throughout the images, together with the Kinect-derived depth estimates the system is able to determine the camera’s motion. Watch a video of the new Kinect Equipped Quadrocopter after the jump, with an explanation of how the system works.

| Amazon Working On NFC Payment System Posted: 01 Apr 2011 06:33 AM PDT There are quite a few different companies looking into NFC payment systems, we already know that both Google and Apple are working on NFC payments, and now it looks like major online retailer Amazon, is working on an NFC payment system. According to a recent Bloomberg report, the team behind Amazon Payments, which is Amazon’s own online payment system, similar to PayPal, is looking into producing an NFC payment system that would let people pay for goods and services in stores with their mobile phones.

| Sword And Sworcery LP Launching April 5th Posted: 01 Apr 2011 05:38 AM PDT Some of our readers will remember the Sword and Sworcery iPad game that we featured on the site recently, it is probably one of the most unique games on the iPad and it comes with an amazing soundtrack. Fans of the game will soon be able to get their hands on the soundtrack, as the game creators, and the musician who wrote the soundtrack, Jim Guthrie have announce the launch of the Sword and Sworcery LP, which will be called “The Ballad of the Space Babies”.

| Opera Mini Returns To GetJar App Store Posted: 01 Apr 2011 05:06 AM PDT After being unceremoniously removed from the GetJar app store, Opera Mini browser has now made a triumphant return and is once again available to download for the GetJar site. Mini Opera was removed from the GetJar site after Opera launched its Opera Mobile App Store, which meant the mobile browser was then breaking GetJar’s own terms and conditions.

| Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc Goes On Sale In The UK Posted: 01 Apr 2011 04:56 AM PDT As well as launching the new Xpreria Play here in the UK, Sony Ericsson also launched the Sony Xperia Arc and it is available in the UK from a number of mobile retailers which include, Three, orange and Vodafone and O2. As a reminder the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc features a 4.2 inch multitouch display, plus Google Android 2.3, there is an 8.1 megapixel camera, with a Sony Exmor R sensor, that is capable of recording HD video in 720p.

| Hasbro Launches MY3D 360-Degree Handheld iPhone Viewer Posted: 01 Apr 2011 04:19 AM PDT Hasbro has now officially launched their new MY3D viewer for Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch which we wrote about last November. The MY3D device simply snaps onto your iOS device and uses specially-formatted MY3D apps available from the iTunes App Store. The MY3D viewer lets you immerse yourself in a 360 degree environment, allowing you to look up, down and even directly behind you. For example, in MY3D 360° Sharks, you are a diver in an underwater shark cage and can look and follow the sharks as they swim around you 360 degrees. There are both games to play and environments to view on the new MY3D device.

| Sony Launches Retro XDR-SD16DBP Portable DAB+ Radio Posted: 01 Apr 2011 04:01 AM PDT Sony has added a new Dab+ portable radio to its range with the launch of the Sony XDR-SD16DBP, which as you can see from the photos below features a retro design. The Sony XDR-SD16DBP features a wooden case, and it is designed to be easy to operate with minimal controls, it is compatible with DAB, DAB+ and FM broadcasts, and features a pair of 0.8W+0.8W stereo speakers.

| iPad 2 Gets Hacked To Take X-Ray Photos (Video) Posted: 01 Apr 2011 03:48 AM PDT It looks like the iPad 2 is capable of taking X-Ray photos, according to the video below, which shows what you can do with an iPad 2, some cling film, and some night vision goggles. As you will see in the video below, The Gadget Shows Jason Bradbury shows what happens when the iPad 2′s camera is used with the night vision goggles, the effect is prety interesting.

The Duet 2 allows you to make professional recordings via your Mac on the move and practically anywhere due to its size. Its also equipped with two touch pads, located on either side of the encoder knob, allow you to quickly access output functions such as Mute Outputs, Dim Outputs, Sum to Mono or Toggle Headphone Source. Together with the mic preamps providing 0-75dB that allows you to dial in the perfect level. The Firewire connection has now also been removed and replaced by a USB port.

| Asus Eee Pad Transformer To Cost $400 In The US Posted: 01 Apr 2011 03:22 AM PDT Yesterday we had the official pricing for the new Asus Eee Pad Transformer tablet in the UK, it will retail for £379 here in the UK and £429 with the keyboard dock, and now it looks like the US pricing has been revealed. The Asus Eee pad Transformer appeared on the Best Buy website with a price tag of $400, and it looks like the keyboard dock will retail for around $150.

| Evernote Chrome Extension Update Brings Quick Clipping Feature Posted: 01 Apr 2011 03:19 AM PDT Evernote yesterday launched a new update to its Chrome browser extension which brought with it a few new features for quickly capturing notes while browsing the web. The first is a new clipping features that includes : ‘clip this page’, a way to grab everything on a page : ‘clip selection’, allowing you to clip just a small part of a page and finally : ‘clip image’, allowing you to save an image clip. Any of the above will then automatically save the clip in question to your default notebook, to which you can then add tags or change to another notebook within your account.

| PlayStation Games Appear In The Android Market Posted: 01 Apr 2011 02:51 AM PDT Now that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has gone on sale in the UK and Europe, a number of PlayStation games have started to appear on Google’s Android Market. Some of the games available in the Android Market, include titles like Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, Syphon Filter and MediEval, and with Sony announcing that there will be 60 games available for the Xperia Play, we should see more PlayStation games added to the Android market shortly.

| Skypes Creates A Competition To Correct Its Skype 5 For Mac Design Posted: 01 Apr 2011 02:42 AM PDT In an attempt to correct the problems with user ability in the recent versions of Skype 5 for Mac. Skype has decided to let the users vote and has started a competition inviting designs for a new chat layout. The competition comprises of three rounds each lasting three weeks, with two winners being selected at the end of each stage. A Skype judges’ choice winner together with a people’s choice winner, as voted for by Skype users. The six winners will then go forward as finalists to battle it out for the grand prize.

| Sony Xperia Play Launching With 60 Games Posted: 01 Apr 2011 02:27 AM PDT We just got an email from the guys over at Sony, letting us know that the Xperia Play will launch with a total of 60 different games. The Xperia Play launched in the UK last night, and it is now available in the UK and Europe. Among the games available at launch are some favourites like Need for Speed, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, Worms, N.O.V.A2, Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby and many more.

| Twitter Removes Infamous Quickbar From iOS Devices Posted: 01 Apr 2011 02:26 AM PDT Twitter has finally listened to its customers and has today released an update to its iOS application that has now removed the Quickbar referred to by some as the “Dick Bar” after CEO Dick Costolo. The dreaded Quickbar was only added last month in an update which was designed to make access to photos, trends, and links much easier. The new bar appeared above the main Twitter feed, displaying one of the days most popular trending topics.

| Sony’s Music Unlimited Headed To Sony NGP Posted: 01 Apr 2011 02:07 AM PDT It looks like Sony’s Music Unlimited service will be available for the Sony Next Generation Portable (NGP), according to a recent report by Eurogamer, and this will bring around 6 million songs to the Sony NGP. Sony has confirmed that people who use Sony’s Music Unlimited service will be able to access tunes from the service on their NGP, and there are a couple of different plans available for the Music Unlimited service.

Tthe Zshock Lunatik is basically an iPod Nano, with a fancy watch strap that has been encrusted in diamonds, and will probably appeal to people who have some cash left over after buying an $8 million iPad 2.

| The Typescreen Retro Typewriter iPad Dock Posted: 01 Apr 2011 12:51 AM PDT We have featured quite a few different docks and accessories for the iPad here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest one is called the Typescreen, and it is basically a typewriter style keyboard dock for the iPad and iPad 2. Unlike previous versions we have seen, this one actually physically types on the iPad’s keyboard when you press a key on the typewriter, which is certainly a unique way to type emails and notes on your iPad.

| Time Warner iPad App Channels Removed, They Explain Why Posted: 01 Apr 2011 12:39 AM PDT Recently Time Warner released an iPad app that let people view live TV on their iPad, the app was available to subscribers of their TV and Internet services, but now it looks like some of the channels have been pulled from the application. It looks like some of the TV networks were less than happy about their channels being available on the iPad, and after Time Warner has been contacted by both Fox Cable, Viacom and Discovery they have had to remove certain channels form the app, and they have issued the following statement.

| DIY iPhone Hotshoe Adds A Light Meter To Your DSLR Posted: 01 Apr 2011 12:29 AM PDT There is a cool application for the iPhone, called Pocket Light Meter, which turns your iPhone into a light meter and will tell you what settings to use on your DSLR to get the best photo. The app uses the camera on your iPhone to let yoy know what shutter speed, f-stop and ISO settings to select on your DSLR, the only problem with the app is that you need to hold your iPhone up to get the setting and then use your DSLR.

| Witness Turns Your Mac Into A Burglar Alarm Posted: 01 Apr 2011 12:16 AM PDT Witness is a new app for your Mac and it will work with any Mac with a built in iSight camera, what it does is detect movement, so you can set it up in your home when you are out to make sure no burglars are trying to steal your precious gadgets. If Wintness is activated it will automatically send an alert to your iPhone or iPad, along with photos and videos of what is happening in your house or apartment.
