You Can Now Play Classic Doom 2 On A Pocketbook 360 Plus eReader

For starters, E Ink eReaders aren't meant for gaming, but a couple of nerds recently uploaded a version of the classic shooter Doom 2 to stretch the technology’s limits. The experiment was a success and quite a bit of gaming went on via a Pocketbook 360 Plus, which is one of the many eReader gadgets with the advantage of E Ink.

Australian Scientists Create Space Beer For Orbital Flights

Since space tourism is going to take off any moment now, Australian scientists have gone great lengths preparing the right beverage for such trips. While orange juice seems like a good idea, certain clients might prefer a cold beer to go with their orbital flight and its breathtaking Earth view. Unfortunately cold beer at such a great altitude isn't a good idea. Thanks to some Down Under ingenuity however, the problem appears to have been solved.

Moshi Unveils iVisor AG for iPad 2

Moshi has unveiled a new accessory for the iPad 2 tablet. The accessory is the iVisor AG for iPad 2 and is a screen protector that comes in black or white colors. The protector covers the entire screen and leaves the buttons and camera uncovered.

Swarm Nectar and Elixir Combine Biking and Beer

Sony Unveils New 3D Professional Camcorder With XDCAM EX Support

Sony has unveiled its latest 3D professional camcorder in the shape of the Sony PMW-TD300 which provides support for Sony's, XDCAM EX recording. The PMW-TD300 is a professional 3D camcorder with a compact, shoulder-mount design and reduces the setup of complicated user adjustments before shooting in 3D, such as left- and right-lens alignment.

The PMW-TD300 is equipped with a dual 3-chip 1/2-inch Exmor Full HD CMOS Sensors provide high quality 3D recordings at 1920 x 1080 resolution. It also supports Sony’s XDCAM EX workflow to improve your 3D workflow, with the same recording format as Sony’s PMW-EX1R, PMW-EX3, and PMW-350/320 Series camcorders.

Apple Hires Carbon Fiber Expert

Before the new iPad 2 was announced there were a number of rumors that it would feature a carbon fiber design on the back of the case, in the end when it was announced the carbon fiber was nowhere in sight.

Now it seems that Apple will be using carbon fiber in some of their future products, as they have just hired Kevin Kenney, as their Senior Composites Engineer, and his previous job was the CEO of Kestrel Bikes, who make carbon fiber bikes.

Friends Aloud iPhone App Reads Out Loud Your Facebook Updates (video)

If you need to be abreast of the updates that continually bombard your Facebook account. aA new iPhone application has been released called “Friends Aloud” which might help you stay on top of all those updates, by reading the your Facebook updates out loud to you. Allowing you to do other things yet still stay up to date with your Facebook friends and followers, even while driving.

The Friends Aloud iPhone App reads aloud your latest Facebook news feed posts and their associated comments, and will automatically shift to reading only new posts for as long as you leave the app running. Watch a video of the new Friends Aloud iPhone application in action after the jump.

Dream:scape iOS Game Uses Unreal Engine (Video)

The first game on the iPhone and the iPad to use the unreal engine, was the awesome Infinity Blade, and now it looks like there is a new game in the works which also uses Unreal Engine, called Dream:scape, and it will be released for the iPhone and iPad.

There really aren’t very many details about the game, it is described as ‘more than a game’, ‘it’s an interactive storytelling experience, comprising over 30 acres of open-world, explorable landscape and fully realized interior settings.’, have a look at the video trailer below.

Audiotool, A Free Cloud Based Music Studio (video)

If you are looking for a free online music production tool then the new Audiotool created by Burn Studios might be worth a look.  Audiotool is a free flash based music production suite of tools that allows you to create electronic music by connecting different devices together anyway you like. Watch a demo of the cloud based application after the jump.

There are a selection of samples and audio setups to get you going together with a comprehensive selection of tutorials to help you get up to speed quickly with the various settings and features within the application. Once you have created your tune you can then download it as either a mp3 or ogg file. You will only be able to download another user’s track if they have chosen a Creative Commons license.

Apple Confirms Problems With Verizon iPad 2

A number of Verizon iPad 2 owners have reported a problem with their iPad 2 over the past couple of weeks, the problem seems to arise when a user turns of 3G on their Verizon iPad 2.

When they turn 3G back on they were unable to connect to the Verizon network, and the only way they could get their iPad 2 to connect was to reboot the device.

JBL AirPlay-Enabled On Air Wireless Speaker System Starts Shipping

JBL have just announced that they have now started shipping their new On Air Wireless Speaker System designed for iOS devices, and is one of the first AirPlay-enabled speakers that streams iTunes 10 music or Internet radio directly from your computer.

The new speaker system can use either your existing Wi-Fi or Ethernet network to connect to your PC or Mac iTunes library and uses Apple’s AirPlay technology to make the link.  The On Air Wireless Speaker System is also equipped with a small LCD screen which allows you to view album artwork and song information when an iOS device is not docked and has menu navigation and music control button son either side of the iOS device dock.

Samsung Galaxy S2 Hits The UK May 1st

Samsung has just announced that the new Samsung Galaxy S2 Android smartphone will be available in the UK from the 1st of May 2011, and it will be available from all major networks and retailers in the UK.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and it also features a dual core 1.2GHz processor and a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.

Crysis 2 DirectX 11 Support Is Under Development, Patch Arriving Soon

Crytek has now announced that they are indeed working on a new patch to bring DirectX 11 support to their new Crysis 2 PC game. Which many gamers thought would have shipped with Direct X 11 support on launch day.

When it didn’t a little confusion then began to surface as to if whether Crytek would ever release a patch for Direct X 11 which would have been a huge disappointment. But today Crytek have now officially silenced the rumours.

Apple’s AirPlay, AirPort Private Key Gets Hacked

A developer, James Laird has managed to reverse engineer Apple’s AirPort Express private key, and he has published an open source AirPort Express emulator, which is called Shareport.

James Lair developed the Shareport so he could stream iTunes music without the use of Apple’s AirPlay, and this means that the key could now be used to create AirPlay compatible software.

3DS Augment Reality Card T-Shirt (video)

Adobe Starts A Monthly Rental Scheme For Its Creative Suite Software (video)

Adobe yesterday announced a new subscription service it has started for its range of Creative Suite software packages, which now allows you to spread the cost. So rather than parting with a hefty $999 for Adobe After Effects you can now rent it from a little as $49 a month or Adobe Photoshop which retails at $699 is now available from $35 a month.

Adobe’s new subscription option, provides creative users with the latest features and functionality of the Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 software an you can either choose a one-year plan for lower payments or a flexible month-to-month plan which you can stop and restart as needed. Watch the Adobe video after the jump which explains how the new subscription based service works in detail.

CyanogenMod Version 7.0 Android-based ROM Released

CyanogenMod  the customised, aftermarket firmware distribution for a range of Android devices has now been released : CyanogenMod 7.0 version (CM7). CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project and has been designed and constructed to increase performance and reliability over Android-based ROMs released by vendors and carriers.

The new release offers more features not found in the official Android based firmwares and is based on the Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) release of Android from Google.

HTC Flyer UK Available To Pre-Order For £599.99

We told you a couple of weeks ago that the HTC Flyer Android tablet was available to pre-order from Clove in the UK for £600, although this pricing was unofficial at the time another UK retailer has now listed the HTC Flyer up for pre-order for £599.99.

UK mobile retailer, the Carphone Warehouse has just put the HTC Flyer up for pre-order on their website, although they haven’t listed any delivery dates that we could see.

EraPalm5, PSP Style Mini Computer Unveiled By EraThink

EraThink have showcased their latest mini computer at the China Consumer Electronics Fair this week, in the form of their new mini computer which resembles a Sony PSP in design and style but has been built to run Windows 7.

The small EraPalm5 computer is fitted with a 5-inch 800 x 480 capacitive touchscreen, that slides upwards to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard. The hidden keyboard can be used in conjunction with the gaming style control D-pad and buttons on the left and right sides of the EraPalm5 to navigate onboard menus and applications.

The EraPalm5 is powered by an Intel Atom Z processor together with either 1 or 2GB or RAM options and disk options starting from 16GB, and climbing to 32 or 64GB SSD for internal storage

YouTube Launches YouTube Live Streaming Service

YouTube has now officially launched its new YouTube Live service which bring, as it states “Live” feeds to the sites services. The dedicated channel brings a new level of entertainment to the already huge video streaming site and will provide users with feature recommendation and discovery tools based on users’ viewing habits.

Google has been testing the new service since September last year and YouTube has already been put through it paces with live streamed events like sports games and concerts.

Panasonic Announces eX3 Android Based In Flight Entertainment System

Panasonic has released details on a new in flight entertainment system it is working on called the Panasonic eX3, which runs Google’s Android OS, and will feature a display in the back of the seat and also a portable handheld controller system.

The Android based in flight system will let you watch live TV, play games, access social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, and also make phone calls as well as video chat.

Google Buys PushLife For Google Music

We have been hearing quite a lot about Google Music recently, and now Google has just purchased a company called PushLife, and they have reportedly paid $25 million for the music start up.

PushLife is software that lets you port your iTunes and Windows Media Player libraries to non Apple smartphones, like Google’s Android and RIM’s BlackBerry.

Steve Jobs Authorized Biography Coming Next Year

There have been a few biographies of Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs over the years, but this one will be the first one that Jobs has actually authorized, and it is being written by Walter Isaacson, who is the former managing editor of Time Magazine.

According to recent reports, Isaacson has been working on the biography of Steve Jobs since 2009, and it will be called iSteve: The Book of Jobs and will be published in early 2012.

Asus has launched a new accessory for notebooks and netbooks, the Asus Xonar USB Soundcard, and it is designed to delivery higher quality audio from your notebook or netbook.

The Asus Xonar U3 can be plugged into a USB port on your notebook, and it comes with a range of Dolby Home Theater technology built in which includes Dolby Headphone, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, Dolby Digital Virtual Speaker and Dolby Digital Live.

Adobe Announces 3 Photoshop Apps For iPad

Adobe has announced three new applications for the iPad, that are designed to be used with Photoshop CS5, Adobe Nav for Photoshop, Adobe Color Lava for Photoshop and Adobe Eazel for Photoshop.

The three new Photoshop applications can be used on your iPad and each of these new applications use Adobe’s Touch SDK, which is also available to developers.

LG Demos 47 Inch Transparent LCD Display (Video)

We recently herd that Samsung had put their new 22 inch transparent LCD display into production, and now LG has shown off a new 47 inch transparent LCD display.

This 47 inch transparent LCD display from LG features a Full HD resolution in  1080p, and the display features multitouch functionality, and it is designed to be used in shopping malls and for digital signs, have a look at the video of it in action below.

Apple’s Smart Cover Gets Ripped Off, Breaks In Minutes (Video)

As soon as Apple releases a new product, a number of copies or fakes appear, usually from some dodgy Chinese manufacturer, and the latest Apple product to get cloned is the new Smart Cover for the iPad 2.

The guys over at MIC Gadget managed to get their hands on one of these knock off iPad 2 Smart Covers, and decided to compare it to the official Apple version, you can see how it compared in the video below.

Parrot AR Drone Controlled By Micorosoft Kinect (Video)

We have featured quite a few different Kinect hacks here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest one combines the Parrot AR Drone quadricopter with the Microsoft Kinect.

The Parrot AR Drone can normally be controlled using your smartphone, as you will see the in the video below the Parrot AR Drone is flown by using hand movements, and it was created by the guys over at Zickel Engineering.
