Featured Articles It appears the rumors of a Mitel acquisition of Polycom were true as the two companies today announced that they have entered a definitive merger agreement that will undoubtedly spark UC innovation. Under the agreement, Mitel will acquire all outstanding shares of Polycom common stock, a cash and stock transaction valued just shy of $2 billion. It's time to dispel the old myths surrounding mobile app development being to costly, complex and lengthy. Enterprises need to be aware that today's technology allows for the swift creation of apps without vendor lock-in and without compromising existing IT governance. Agile, open, collaborative and powerful cloud-based mobile application platforms enable bimodal IT and allow enterprises to become mobile-first. Maintaining security when using a computer is not a new idea. It is something that has been talked about for a long time. Despite the signs that hackers are all around us, people still do not take the basic steps they need to do to make sure they are safe. Much of it is common sense. Put the defenses in place, learn how to keep a computer safe and make sure that it is always up to date. Last week, SpaceX and Blue Origin marked new milestones in building reusable launch vehicles. SpaceX successfully landed a Falcon 9 first stage on a drone ship, while Blue Origin made its third launch and landing with the New Shepard suborbital vehicle. Each company continues to build experience unmatched and so far unchallenged by traditional launch providers, with the prospect to lower costs and increase launch rates in the near future. Last week I was at NVIDIA's big developer event where there was a closing keynote (recorded) by Gill Pratt, CEO of Toyota Research on self-driving cars. Up until now the plan appeared to be to turn cars into some kind of horizontal rolling living room/elevator that would pick you up and drop you off without any driver input. In fact, some of the designs didn't even have steering wheels. NVIIDA even showcased a self-driving race car that didn't even have a place for a driver to ride (unless he or she wanted to put a saddle on the thing and ride it like a horse). Logitech recently landed Jaybird for $50 million and potential other payouts to follow. With Jaybird's acquisition, Logitech lands a new line of accessories that give it an even better market reach.
