These days it is not unusual to hear people bemoan that we have lost the capacity to think big and invest in projects with profound future impacts. This has been true even in the fast-paced communications industry, where things like SDN, NFV and 5G are getting lots of investment. The good news is that Cornell University will lead a five-year, $5 million project sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to build a federated cloud, known as the Aristotle Cloud Federation.
Global cloud traffic will more than quadruple by the end of 2019, from 2.1 to 8.6 zettabytes (ZB), outpacing the growth of total global data center traffic, which is forecast to triple during the same time frame (from 3.4 to 10.4 ZB).
A powerful new high-speed communications link has been forged between telecom service provider Hibernia Networks and Equinix. Hibernia announced it will offer Ethernet connectivity to and within the Equinix Cloud Exchange in North America, Asia and Europe.
Security specialist Centrify has teamed up with five cloud access security brokers (CASBs) to enable safe and compliant cloud application deployment for enterprises. The company is integrating with technology from Cloudlock, Elastica, Imperva, Netskope and Skyhigh Networks to offer high levels of user identity security for a variety of cloud applications.
