Fanboys should start worrying. Apple's introduction and spin around the iPad Pro is not a home run hit by any stretch of the imagination. It's fast and quality hardware, but the software to make it a PC replacement isn't there. With Microsoft looming large behind it, Apple is not innovating, but just keeping pace with its own development cycle. You have to wonder how hard the company is looking at what the rest of the world is doing. I'm at the rollout of Qualcomm's premier chipset, the Snapdragon 820. They've been talking about this technology quietly over the last year, and it will start showing up in smartphones next year. The 820 is the top of their line, a showcase for the platform, and its features are expected to set the bar for high-end smartphones, whether they use the technology or not. The holiday shopping season has started up for many already, and with Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa only a few weeks out, toy purchases are already front-of-mind. A new report from Juniper Research shows that one breed of toy is likely to have a big year this year: smart toys. Two different U.S. launches, plus a Russian resupply mission, failed over the last year, forcing NASA and its suppliers to resort to Plan C for resuming operations starting back up this December. Netflix, Hulu, YouTube...these are household names when it comes to providing an evening's entertainment. A new report from Parks Associates shows just how saturated these brands are, as over one in five broadband households in the United States with at least one CE device turn to a streaming media player as the primary delivery mechanism for online video. Other than terrorism and the continuing global economic challenges, the world stage faces few crises as pressing as climate change. So, three weeks ahead of the UN climate change conference to be held in Paris, COP21, there is an interesting report out from international not-for-profit CDP, which holds the most comprehensive set of global corporate environmental data. It has released its annual Climate Change Report on behalf of 822 investors representing US$95 trillion.
