Latest Featured Articles What happens when you combine two hot new technologies? The team at SolidCloud has combined WebRTC and Bitcoin to build a new service, dubbed Bitphone. I spent some time talking with Michael Lauricella about the concept and the technology. In many ways WebRTC is still in its early maturation stages. The level of innovation across the emerging WebRTC ecosystems continues to accelerate, and is proving to be a great thing to watch. A recent example of this comes with the introduction by Tokbox, part of Telefonica Digital, a division of Telefonica S.A., continuing to push the envelope to improve WebRTC functionality so that it is both carrier and enterprise grade as solutions get developed and deployed. In fact, an example of this comes with the recent introduction on the company's blog of the availability of its new session diagnostic tool, Inspector. Not surprising, humans were pre-wired for interactive relationships. While technology can address collaboration needs of remote employees, management should prioritize regular in-person gatherings. Studies show employee satisfaction, team collaboration, creativity and productivity are affected by peer-to-peer interaction. If in-person meetups are not possible, go "virtual". Make it a point to not only host business meetings virtually, but set up online meet-and-greets to engage every team member-even invite the family or favorite dog. Adobe's Flash technology, once a necessity in the web world, is at a tipping point. Developers are frustrated at a closed system and near-weekly security updates, along with no support on Apple platforms. The move is on to migrate to "pure" HTML 5 implementations. As designers port and rewrite games for HTML 5, the opportunities to inject voice and video as part of a refresh increase dramatically with the simplicity of WebRTC API calls.
