Featured Articles Remember when TV commercials seemed to always be louder than the programming that they ran with? It wasn't just the imagination at work-typically they were, and it was a consumer dissatisfaction trigger for many. The FCC's Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation (CALM) Act is meant to eliminate the issue-but hasn't completely. Now, the Commission has approved a technical change that could further reduce the volume of the ads. We love technology. It's what drives our developers. It's what drives our product. That's why we've carefully kept an eye on the Internet of Things (IoT) trend and tried to determine if it's a topic that might offer substantial benefits for our customers in the years to come. We don't know yet if IoT will live up to the hype, but we are convinced that it will have an impact on the way we experience IT-and the time to get prepared is now. Perhaps the most compelling part of the Apple developer event today was the representation that the number of new users coming to Apple was at all-time highs. Given Apple has been falling behind Samsung and Google's Android this would also suggest that the rate in which they are losing people to Samsung and Google is also at an all-time rate. This would suggest a defensive strategy because if they can stop the erosion, the growth numbers then translate more directly to Apple growth and the success Tim Cook needs to hang on to his job. Over the past year, it has become clear what AT&T and T-Mobile US stand for. Sprint is looking for a merger with T-Mobile. It leaves Verizon in need of a rescue, because the company is leaning on marketing tricks more than technology accomplishments. A new report offers some stark tidings about cybercrime for those who really are concerned about such things: the bad guys, so to speak, are outgunning the good guys on most every front.
