Welcome to May! It's a rainy start here in New York, but by the afternoon it will be sunny and warm. Let's get to the news:

  1. Snapchat has added text and video messaging to its application.
  2. Facebook had a big day of announcements at its F8 conference. Here's a quick rundown: There are anonymous logins possible with your Facebook account, there is a mobile Like button, there is a new mobile ad network, and there is a system for deep linking between apps.
  3. The big takeaway from Facebook is this: It failed to build its own operating system, so instead, it's going to try to be a middle layer that developers have to use.
  4. Here's a long interview with Mark Zuckerberg where he talks about some of the changes at Facebook.
  5. AT&T approached DirecTV about a possible takeover.
  6. Box is delaying its IPO, and there's a chance it could be pulled. Investors are spooked by the company's giant cash burn.
  7. Sprint will attempt to take over T-Mobile, with a bid coming in June or July. AT&T failed to buy T-Mobile previously, but Sprint thinks that AT&T botched its effort, and Sprint has learned from AT&T's mistakes.
  8. Alibaba is looking at trying to regain a stake in Alipay, which is a Chinese payments company. Alipay was once a part of Alibaba, but was spun out of Alibaba in 2011.
  9. Amazon has acquired a 25% stake in a French delivery service.
  10. Sony is just a disaster: It cut earnings estimates for a third time.
