Those of you following the rise of the Internet of Things (IoT) may want to add Arrayent to your list of startups to watch.
The Redwood City, California-based startup just won a serious amount of financing — $11.9 million, to be exact — from Intel Capital and DCM Ventures. This is the company's second round of funding. In total, it's pulled in $13.4 million. Not only does the influx of bucks show the believed promise and potential of Arrayent, it reflects Intel's seriousness about and commitment to IoT.
Arrayent specializes in providing a cloud for connected sensors. Formed in 2002, it predates many of its peers, but was reorganized in 2005 to pursue the connected device market. In 2008, the startup adopted outside capital to expand as the opportunity for app-powered devices became more tangible with the increasing prevalence of smartphones and technology in our daily lives.
