In the lead-up to the implementation of the most critical element of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA, or “Obamacare”), many states are seeing changes happen as they ready themselves to begin broadening health insurance availability to more citizens.
Earlier this week, the federal government announced that the Kansas Insurance Department had been awarded a $3.1 million grant to improve the technologies it uses to review health insurance rate increases, promote rate transparency, educate consumers and hold insurance companies accountable. A boost in the technologies used to promote efficiencies in healthcare information is one of the signature elements of the PPACA.
The funds will come from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) and 20 other states will see similar grants awarded to them.
