These groups are trying to revoke or dilute the renewable portfolio standards (RPS), which require a certain share of a State's electricity supply to come from sources like solar and wind. According to the North Carolina Solar Center, 42 separate efforts are wending their way through legislatures and courts in more than two dozen States, reported InsideClimate News. Justin Barnes, a senior analyst at the center told InsideBusiness News reporter Maria Gallucci that "The danger of some of these RPS laws being repealed is a little bit greater this year than it was last year." The report shows that some pro-Republican groups are mainly behind the anti-renewable bills for several reasons. As per the report, American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is behind this drive.
