Mobile manufacturing giant Samsung (News - Alert) is planning on launching a new line of devices that will revolutionize the mobile industry. The new line will feature a bendable plastic screen, as opposed to the traditional glass screens that are found on current mobile phones. The company has recently overtaken chief rival Apple (News 
- Alert) in the third quarter of this year and with this new innovation, it is obvious it is not planning on relinquishing its current position anytime in the near future.
This new bendable, plastic screen being used instead of a typical glass screen will make mobile devices unbreakable, lighter, bendable, and more importantly, lower in price. Development of this new type of screen is in the final stages and is expected to be released sometime by mid-2013. With this new technology, Samsung is looking for a way to differentiate its products within a very competitive market of smartphones and tablets and may very well have found a key component to increase its margin in this race.
Samsung has combined two different divisions of its corporation, the liquid crystal display unit and the organic light emitting diode unit, to form Samsung Display. The new flexible screen will use Samsung’s organic light emitting diode (OLED), which is already in use with smartphones and television sets.
