 Today's advice comes from Kevin Systrom, CEO of Instagram via Startup Junkies: "A lot of people when starting a company think they're starting a product. And that's really what you're doing—starting a product to show traction. You think, 'OK I'm going to build a product,' but really in the long run, you have to build a company. And that's way harder than trying to code a few lines and building the design out." Systrom says taking time away from creating your product and focusing on the functionality and vision of your company, is essential to its success. Instagram, a photo sharing application that started only two years ago, hit 100 million users in September. Users are able to upload photos on the app from almost any location around the world and share with a network or friends and followers. But none of this growth came without Systrom taking time away from designing Instagram's application, to think about the structure and future of the company. "I did all the design for our app. I had to stop doing that and say, 'OK we need an office and we need to recruit people and we need to think about vision, and we have to think about where we stand in the ecosystem,' and that's building a company.
