Kinect Gaming Motion Sensor Used To Create Indoor Mapping System (video)

Researchers at MIT have used one of Microsoft’s Kinect motion gaming controllers, together with a laptop and laser to create a device that is able to map interiors in real time.

The device has been designed and created to help emergency personal rapidly map complex interiors and spaces, and has been developed using funding from the US Air Force and the Office of Naval Research. Samsung To Launch Android Galaxy Music Phone

It looks like Samsung is working on a new smartphone, the device is rumored to be called the Samsung Galaxy Music Phone, and will come with Google’s Android OS.

The Samsung Music Phone is rumored to be a mid range smartphone, and it will come with Android 4.0 ICS but will get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update shortly after release.

$99 Eken B70 Android 4.0 Tablet Arriving In The US

Eken has announced this week that their $99 B70 Android tablet will be arriving in the US very shortly. The Eken B70 tablet will be supplied running Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system, and comes equipped with a capactive touchscreen 800 x 480 pixel display.

The Eken B70 Android 4.0 tablet is powered by a 1.2 GHz Allwinner A10 ARM Cortex-A8 single core processor, supported by 512MB RAM. No details have been released as to whether the B70 will receive Google’s latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

It looks like Motorola has finally started rolling out the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update to the Motorola Atrix 2, in the form of firmware version 67.21.15.

Apple Ordering Parts For New Device Made From Carbon Fiber (Rumor)

We have heard rumors in the past that Apple has been considering using carbon fiber in some of its devices, and now according to a recent report from Japanese blog Macotakara, Apple has requested carbon fiber samples for device parts from a Japanese company.

There are no details as yet on what exactly the carbon fiber parts would be used for, but apparently quite a few parts have been ordered, more than would normally be ordered as a sample.

Garmin Adds Google Street View To Its iOS Navigation Apps

It looks like Garmin has decided to capitalize on the issues faced by users of Apple’s new Maps App on their iOS platform, as it has updated it Garmin iOS apps to add in new features, which include Google’s Street View.

Viewsonic ViewPad97i Pro Windows Tablet Announced

Viewsonic has added a new Windows 7 tablet to their range in the form of the Viewsonic ViewPad97i Pro, which has now had more details released about its specifications this week.

The latest Windows 7 tablet to be added to the Viewsonic range is equipped with a 9.7 inch 1024 x 768 pixel IPS capacitive touchscreen display, and measures 9.7″ x 7.5″ x 0.6″ and weighs 2.2 pounds.

Mobile gamers might be interested to learn that MSI has today launched a new gaming notebook in the form of the MSI GX60, which is equipped with a AMD A10 4600M Quad Core processor.

The MSI GX60 is also fitted with a SteelSeries keyboard, and a 15.6 inch 1920 x 1080 resolution display, supported by AMD Radeon HD 7970M GPU, to provide a gaming, 3D rendering or video editing system whist on the move.

iPhone 5 vs Nokia Lumia 920 Camera Image Stabilisation Test (video)

The team over at Engadget have been able to carry out a camera image stabilisation test between the new Apple iPhone 5 and Nokia’s Lumia 920 smartphone which was recently unveiled.

Nokia has equipped their Lumia 920 with the industries top image stabilisation technology, with Apple iPhone being equipped with digital stabilisation technology, so on paper the Lumia 920 should win in a head-to-head test. Check out the results in the video after the break.

Seiko Limited Edition Star Wars Watches Announced

Seiko has launch a new range of limited edition Star Wars watches, and there are a number of Star Wars themed versions available which include everyone’s favourite characters.

Google Street View Underwater Panoramic Images Of Great Barrier Reef Unveiled (video)

Google has unveiled new Google Street View underwater images have been added to their service and are now available to view, providing a glimpse of the Great Barrier Reef in all its glory.

From today you can now explore the reef and see the reef at sunset, thanks to a partnership between Google and The Catlin Seaview Survey, which is a a major scientific study of the world's reefs. Watch the video after the jump to see it in action.

Apple Still Had Over A Year Left On Maps Contract With Google

Earlier today we heard that Google are working on a new Google Maps apps for Apple’s iOS devices, Apple replaced Google Maps with their own Maps App on the iPhone and iPad last week.

There has been speculation that one of the reasons that Apple replaced Google Maps so quickly was that their contract was due to run out, although according to The Verge, Apple and Google had over a year left on their Maps contract.

Samsung Galaxy Note II Launches In South Korea

We heard yesterday that Samsung’s new Galaxy Note II smartphone will launch in the UK next Monday the 1st of October, and now the first Galaxy Note II handsets have gone on sale in South Korea.

Samsung is expecting the Galaxy Note II to be more popular than the original Galaxy Note, which ended up selling over 10 million units since it was launched, and Samsung are expecting to sell three times more of the Galaxy note II.

RIM’s CEO Says They Have A ‘Clear Shot’ At Being Number Smartphone 3 Platform

RIM hasn’t exactly had the best year, but according to RIM’s CEO Thorsten Heins that may be about to change as he has said that RIM has a ‘clear shot’ at becoming the number three smartphone platform.

Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS are the top two smartphone platforms, and for RIM to become number three then they would have to overtake Symbian, this is something they could possibly achieve with the launch of their new BlackBerry 10 platform which will launch with new devices early next year.

A number of owners of Apple’s new iPhone 5 have been reporting that the black aluminum casing on the handset is easily scratched, and some have even reported that their new iPhone 5 has come with scratches out of the box.

Barnes & Noble Announces Nook HD And Nook HD+ Tablets

Barnes and Noble is the latest company to introduce a tablet, with the launch of two tablets, the Nook HD and the Nook HD+, the company is obviously looking to take on Amazon and their Kindle Fire tablet and Apple and the iPad.

The B&N Nook HD is a 7 inch tablet that comes with a resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels and 243 ppi, and it also comes with a dual core 1.3GHz Texas Instruments processor.
