One thing I enjoy quite a lot about our “Analyze This” session at M2M Evolution is that not much time is wasted in quantifying demand. Simply put, M2M is growing and it is sure to continue to do so for the foreseeable future. In support of this supposition, I offer a link to the ARM-commissioned study by The Economist that ARM CEO Ian Ferguson recently shared with me.
According to the study, ARM-designed circuits are going to be a huge winner as the Internet of Things, continues to expand (the term “Internet of Things”, or “IoT”, being all-inclusive of M2M in Europe), with the hockey stick of demand making the curve up over the next two years. Right now, though, what is going on is lot of planning, and as I suspect this planning includes device modifications I expect that forecast to be overly optimistic.
The study involved the participation of some 500+ executives from large companies, some of which are already identifiable in the M2M space and some of which have no stated perspective. It shows no clear consensus on where things are going, though it does highlight some interesting perspectives on the Internet of Things and suggests that we are currently moving through a process evaluation...Read More
