HIPAA Drives Healthcare in the Cloud

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is no joke for the healthcare industry or the solutions providers who support it. HIPAA was designed to protect patient privacy and restrict who has access to patient medical records.
The HIPAA standards around security and privacy have historically made the healthcare industry cautious about adopting new technologies such as cloud computing since the penalty for technology failure is high. But now the HIPAA omnibus and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) requirements require the industry to begin migrating patient records and other data to cloud computing. Read More
