If there's one topic that could unite a partisan Congress without debate, it would be securing U.S. smart grids and infrastructures from hackers. But a big problem arises when we discuss smart grid security, and that comes in the form Internet-connected devices.
As MIT Technology Review notes, most Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) control systems are made vulnerable to attack by connecting to mobile devices and the Internet. Embedded devices and unsecured connections can then leave grids to the whims of hackers and criminal enterprises by exploiting devices that weren't made with security in mind.
