The Whole World is OneM2M


I had the chance to listen to the partnership press announcement of the OneM2M initiative yesterday which included a lot of prepared remarks.  The partnership includes the original parties that formed the 3GPP association.  That includes the Association of Radio Industries and Businesses (ARIB) and the Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) of Japan; the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS) and the Telecommunications Industry Association (News - Alert) (TIA) of the USA; the China Communications Standards Association (CCSA); the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI); and the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA (News - Alert)) of Korea.

Given the prepared remarks let’s discuss the similarities and differences in the association.  On the similarity side of the equation, the group is focused on use cases that standardize the interfaces to carriers systems.  This is what they did with 3GPP and it has worked well; however, the use cases normally included human interaction and now some scenarios may show deviation as a result of machines being better at multitasking on the network.
