Gmail Updated on iOS with Notification Center Support


Even though Apple (News - Alert) may be trying to force its rival out of the iOS ecosystem, the reality is that Google's services are at least as popular as Apple's products. Apple knows this, of course — you don't get to be the biggest tech company in the world with bad business decisions — so even though iOS 6 won't come standard with Google (News - Alert) Maps, users can still download the app. Likewise, Google knows it needs to continue to provide a quality experience with its iOS apps.


For example, the search giant and Android (News - Alert) creator updated its Gmail app for iPhone (News - Alert) and iPad on Monday, bringing a couple of major improvements.


First, the Gmail app now supports the iOS Notification Center, which was introduced as a major feature in iOS 5 at last year's Worldwide Developers' Conference. As such, e-mails received in the iOS Gmail app will pop up in the Notification Center just like with text messages and other important notifications.
