There are plenty of software applications and services available to monitor servers alerting you if you have a problem. But none of them come close to the awesomeness of this traffic light server monitoring system which has been created using a little Arduino wizardry.

Leaked iPhone 5, iPhone 4S Photo Shows A5 Processor

We have been hearing for a while that the new iPhone 5 will come with Apple’s new A5 processor that can be found inside the iPad 2, we have also heard that Apple may be launching a cheaper iPhone which is rumored to be called the iPhone 4S.

The photo below was spotted by the guys from Phone Arena and it is apparently an photo of the insides of a new iPhone, although there are no details on whether it is the iPhone 4S or the iPhone 5.

Powerwheel Bike Hub, Designed To Slow Your Bike For $1200

Facebook Is Worlds Largest Photo Library With Over 140 Billion Photos

In a revealing article on the 1000 Memories website you get a fantastic picture on just how big Facebook is when compared to other photographic sites such as Flickr and Instagram. Also revealing that “Every 2 minutes today we snap as many photos as the whole of humanity took in the 1800s”.

The diagram below shows a square representing Facebook’s 140 billion photos that have been uploaded to it since it start, and down in the bottom left corner (magnified) is the amount of photos for Flickr and Instagram have stored for users.

ViewSonic V430 Android Smartphone Announced

ViewSonic has added another Android smartphone to its range with the launch of the ViewSonic V430, which comes with a 4.3 inch WVGA multi-touch touchscreen display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels.

The ViewSonic V430 is powered by a single core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and it comes with 512MB of RAM, Android comes in the form of Android 2.2 Froyo.

Motorola’s 7 Inch Xoom Tablet Leaked?

We have been hearing rumors over the last few months that Motorola intends to launch a smaller version of its Xoom tablet, with a 7 inch display, and the guys from This is My next have obtained a photo which is reported to be of the new 7 inch Motorola Xoom Tablet.

The device is reported to come with a microSD port and a micro HDMI port, it looks to be running Android from the photo, although there are no details on which version as yet.

Pantech Breakout Gets Official

We have been hearing that the new Pantech Breakout is headed to Verizon Wireless over the last few weeks, and now it official the Pantech Breakout will be available from Verizon on the 22nd of September in stores and online.

Batman: Arkham City Latest Villain Revealed (video)

It look like Batman will have his work cut out in the new Batman game reading for release. As Rocksteady has revealed yet another villain that will in the new Batman: Arkham City game joining the likes of Penguin, Solomon Grundy, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, The Riddler and Two Face naming just a few.

The latest villain to be unveiled is Deadshot who is equipped with a mask with eyeholes and a targeting system over his right eye, together with wrist-mounted guns and two sidearms, as well as a sniper rifle. View the video after the jump to reveal a little more insight into the character.

Windows 8 To Feature The Ability To Make Phone Calls?

We have already had a good look at some of the new functions as well as the new apps in Microsoft’s Windows 8, and now it would appear that there will be another new feature in Windows 8 when it launches.

The guys over at I Started Something spotted something interesting in Windows 8, as you can see in the photo below there is something called ‘Missed Calls’, which would indicate that Windows 8 tablets could have the ability to make and receive calls.

Korea’s KT Telecom Announces NFC Enabled iPhone Case

We have heard that Apple may be looking to bring NFC (Near Field Communications) payment to the new iPhone 5, but now it would appear that Korean mobile carrier KT Telecom could be the first company to bring NFC payments to the iPhone in the form of an NFC enabled case for the iPhone 4.

The company has just launched its own NFC payment system for the iPhone 4, and it comes in the form of the iCarte 420K NFC case, that can be used for purchases with retailers, restaurants, cinemas an more.

Google Wallet Payment Terminal Spotted Ahead Of Official Launch

We heard earlier that Google is expected to roll out its new Google Wallet service some time today, this has yet to be confirmed by Google, but more evidence has appeared which points to the imminent launch of Google Wallet.

Microsoft has announced that its Windows 8 Metro applications will only be available from their own Windows Store, the official name given to Microsoft’s apps store.

Following in Apple’s footsteps and taking full control over what will an won’t be sold in their store. Microsoft director Ted Dworkin explained that the Windows Store will be used to restrict Metro app distribution to ensure the software applications are secure and appropriate.

Sony Confirms PS Vita Will Be Region-Free

Over the weekend Sony has officially confirmed that their new PS Vita gaming console will indeed by region-free enabling it to play any game released in any country worldwide.

6ft Tetris Game Built Using LED Matrix Controlled By DDR Mats (video)

Three MIT students have joined forces to create a massive 6ft tall Tetris game which uses an LED matrix which is then controlled using a pair of Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) controller mats.

The LED lights were fitted into lazer cut acrylic tubes and then attached to a chipboard frame. Watch the 6ft tall Tetris game in action after the jump, might be worth lowering your volume slightly.

LG’s HD Android Smartphone Comfirmed

Last week we saw some photos of a new Android smartphone from LG which is yet to be announced, the device was the LG LU6200, which we got a brief look at and now whilst LG hasn’t released any model specific information, the company has now confirmed that it has a HD smartphone in the works.

LG has signed a deal with game developer Capcom for the upcoming Android version of Capcom’s Street Fighter IV game, and in the press release they have also confirmed the existence of their first HD smartphone.

LG Optimus Q2 QWERTY Slider Android Smartphone Announced

New Smartphone Subconscious Mode Could Extend Your Devices Battery Life Considerably

New smartphones are being fitted with ever faster processors to help them power through the latest applications, but the flip side to using faster processors in our devices is the added strain it puts on our battery life.

Researchers at the University of Michigan computer science and engineering have been looking into the problem and developed a new subconscious mode for smartphones which could extend battery life in our devices by as much as 54 percent.

Chrome 14 Released Complete With Native Client Support

Google has this week rolled out their new Google Chrome 14 browser to the stable channel which brings a number of new features including a new Native Client, Web Audio API enabling rich audio processing in Web applications and enhancements for Apple’s New OS X Lion.

The new Natice Client (NaCl) framework support will now allow developers to to securely run C and C++ code inside the web browser. NaCl has been present in earlier version of Chrome but has been behind a flag.

Google Wallet Launching Today?

Google announced their new Google Wallet service back in May, and now it would appear that Google is getting ready to launch Google Wallet and the payment service could possibly launch today, the 19th of September.

Google has apparently been sending out documents, which state that the Google Wallet will launch on the Sprint Nexus S from the 19th of September, you can see this in the 2nd photo below.

Windows 8 Metro Apps In Action (Video)

Last week we saw a couple of different videos which gave us a good look at Microsoft’s latest version of Windows, Windows 8, and now Microsoft has released another video which give us a look at apps running on Windows 8 with their Metro UI.

The video below gives us a look at apps like photos, mail, calendar, messaging and lots more, as well as some of the built in social networking features like Facebook integration.

Xbox TV Arriving For The Holiday Season

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has announced that a new Xbox TV service is set to be released by Microsoft and will be arriving before the holiday season. The announcement was made by Ballmer at the Microsoft financial analyst meeting this week. Where he explained Microsoft is currently working with “dozens or hundreds of additional video-content suppliers,”. Which surely needs a little more clarification from Microsoft.

Samsung Illusion Photo Appears Online

We have heard previously that the Samsung Illusion is headed to Verizon Wireless, and now Samsung has posted a photo of the Verizon Samsung Illusion on Flickr, which you can see below.

We don’t have any official specifications on the Samsung Illusion as yet, although it is rumored to come with either an 800MHz or 1GHz processor, a HVGA display and either a five or three megapixel camera.

Stormtrooper Helmet Created Only Using Sneakers

We have featured a number of Star Wars Stormtrooper helmets here on Geeky Gadgets made from a range of different materials, but never from just sneakers.

The amazing creation pictured below has been created using Adidas Star Wars skate shoes. It was specially created for the Star Wars Remix site and the piece belongs to a body of work called “The Branding Wars,” and can even be worn.

The Stormtrooper Helmet is also currently available on eBay to purchase and is already at $1,075 with just over a day remaining.

Samsung Plans To Block The iPhone 5 In Korea

Apple and Samsung are suing each other in about 20 different court cases at the moment, in various countries around the world, and now it would appear that Samsung intends to take legal action against Apple in Korea when Apple releases the next generation iPhone.

According to the Korea Times, who has apparently received the information from a Samsung executive, Samsung will be seeking a complete ban on sales of the iPhone 5 in Korea.

White iPhone 4S Appears In AT&T Inventory?

We are expecting Apple to officially announce the new iPhone 5 some time this month, but there have also been rumors of another new iPhone coming from Apple this year which is expected to be a cheaper model, the iPhone 4S.

The guys over at Engadget have got their hands on a screenshot of AT&T’s internal inventory system, and it shows something interesting, a white iPhone 4S, listed as ‘iPhone 4S White’.

Google Nexus Prime Headed To Verizon 3rd November?

We have been hearing more and more about the Samsung produced Google Nexus Prime over the last few weeks, and now it would appear that the Google Nexus Prime may become available from Verizon Wireless on the 3rd of November.

The Google Nexus Prime will be the first smartphone to come with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, and it is expected to feature a dual core TI OMAP 4460 processor plus an 8 megapixel camera on the back and a front facing 2 megapixel camera.

$99 HP TouchPad To Be Available To HP Employees

We know that HP is going to be releasing a second run of the bargain $99 HP TouchPad tablets some time next month, and now it looks like HP employees will be able to get their hands on the TouchPad tablet shortly.

The guys over at Tech Crunch have got their hands on an internal memo from HP which details that the TouchPad tablet will be available to HP employees from the 28th of September for $99 and $149.

Netflix Splits DVD And Streaming Business

Netflix has announced that the company is splitting its DVD and streaming business into two separate companies, the streaming service will continue with the Netflix name whilst the DVD based subscription service will now be called Qwikster.

The news came from Netflix CEO Reed Hastings in a blog post on the Netflix Blog, and the two services will now be completely independent of each other, and will have separate websites.

HP TouchPad Gets CyanogenMod 7 With WiFi And More (Video)

We recently saw a video of CyanogenMod 7 running on the HP TouchPad, and now a new video has been released by the CyanogenMod team which shows a range of new features working on the HP TouchPad.

Samsung Galaxy S Gets Inductive Charging Mod (Video)

Modder and German IT student Qian Qin decided that he wanted to add some inductive charging to his Galaxy S smartphone, so he got hold of a Touchstone charging dock for the Palm Pre and also the back cover of the Pre.

He then took the inductive charging unit out of the Palm Pre case, and soldered it inside his Samsung Galaxy S smartphone, the video below shows the device in action with inductive charging.

Developer Releases Shake-To-Undo Mac Correction App
