However, it's not every day that two major cloud communications players with highly complementary offerings join forces in 50/50 fashion. Today, GENBAND and Sonus announced intentions of merging, which results in not just a coup for each company, but real time communications win big as well. WannaCry doesn't operate like you'd expect. That is, it's not a seedy application or form of spam that self-installs on your computer because you clicked a bad link. It spreads, on its own, through a rather obscure Windows exploit that was only just recently patched by Microsoft engineers. The vulnerability in question is called ExternalBlue, and is the same one the NSA uses as a backdoor. I was at a VR event this week, and I'm sure the speaker misspoke when he said that one of the benefits of VR is the ability to meet yourself. But the idea caught my interest; what if you could meet and talk to yourself? Not in your head as you do now, but as a separate entity in real time? More than 200,000 computers in more than 150 countries were crippled by a massive ransomware attack, dubbed WannaCry, and security experts warned that it may get worse before it gets better. Another broadband satellite cloud network moved closer to reality this month, with LeoSat securing an investment from SKY Perfect JSAT (SJC) Corporation. The exact amount of the investment was not disclosed, but SJC is Asia's largest satellite operator and Japan's only provider of both multi-channel pay TV broadcasting and satellite services. The Infoblox Intelligence Unit observed two global malware outbreaks on Friday, May 12. Although there is no indication that the two attacks were related, both were ransomware attacks with the goal of encrypting the victims' files and demanding payment (mostly in the form of a Bitcoin payment) in order to decrypt them.
