Christian Jensen is chief evangelist of Sinch, a cloud-based, mobile communications platform that makes it easy to add IM, SMS, verification, video, and voice to apps. We recently spoke with Jensen, who will be a speaker at ITEXPO next month, to get a better idea of how Sinch is using important architectures and technologies like AI, analytics, cloud, and UC, both inside its organization and to reach and serve customers. Here's what he had to say.
While today's applications truly are exciting, it's easy to overlook how important the workplace environment is for their success. The context in which a collaboration solution is deployed really matters, as a holistic approach is needed to ensure that the right technologies are deployed in the right way to meet today's workplace needs.
Apple has one of the strongest legal teams in the segment; however, when a company starts using litigation offensively, it generally points to a problem, or problems, with its execution. While it appears to have executed an impressive coup getting the FTC to back its play, Apple apparently didn't take into account the new head of the panel, and that could prove to be its undoing.
Once upon a time - the end of 2013, to be precise - Twitter was valued at nearly $40 billion. Today, it's "only" at $11.68 billion, with a majority of analysts rating the stock at a hold. Rumors of acquisitions abound, while the company is selling off software assets and pushing live video as its Next Big Thing. But how do you assess Twitter's value when it is the bully pulpit for the 45th President of the United States? It's an awkward conversation.
The FCC's first move under the new chairman was to approve $170 million in new federal funding to expand broadband connectivity to unserved rural areas of New York state. "Broadband is critical to economic opportunity and job creation," said Pai.
As digitalization moves from an abstract term to a central part of the business strategy, CIOs are being called on to provide strategic insight and leadership in new ways. And as we grapple with the simultaneous chaos of "cloud journeys," SaaS sprawl, mobility challenges and the speed with which IT needs to respond to the market, one theme runs through it all: data.
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force next year, includes a right to obtain an explanation of decisions made by algorithms and a right to opt-out of some algorithmic decisions altogether. These regulations do little to help consumers, but they will slow down the development and use of AI in Europe by holding developers to a standard that is often unnecessary and infeasible.
While OneWeb is bringing new investment and more jobs into America as it builds a mega constellation of low-flying satellites for worldwide broadband coverage, there's a key point that many have missed. SoftBank Group, the Japanese firm that put up $1 billion for OneWeb, also owns Sprint. Putting together OneWeb with Sprint will provide the U.S. carrier with some key advantages in the future if the two can work together.
The last 10 years have seen more technological change than any 10 years before it. But when anything hits the mainstream, whether it be tech or dietary trends, it is worth noting. Here are three of the ways Apple helped facilitate the transition.
A report from NPD revealed that drone sales have tripled over the past year to about $200 million. The trend will continue, so much so that 2017 could be dubbed the year of the drone. Here are several exciting ways we'll see drones used in the coming year.
