IoT technologies cross over many different fields. Any product in the IoT space is likely to touch on many preexisting technologies, some of which may be patented. New York City is the biggest city in the U.S. and one of the most important to the global economy and information infrastructure. For those reasons, it's critical that it start moving on IoT initiatives, and shocking that Minerva Tantoco is the first-ever CTO for the City, leading the mayor's Office of Technology and Innovation. In the consumer connected car space, more is definitely what's needed. More testing, more safety, more data and more use cases. All of that will be required to prove the concept to governmental regulators that are terrified of rolling armies of computer-driven vehicles, just waiting for the right moment to strike. With its arms already elbow deep in the IoT data management world, SAP is reaching for even more of the goodies, judging by the SAPHANA expansion announcement this week.
