This week Facebook announced the long expected video extensions to the Facebook Messenger, using WebRTC. The release of video calling in Facebook can be seen as both a simple change to the existing Skype integration and as the first real salvo in creating the next generation communications system. The big news is that 600 million Facebook users will instantly get real-time video, with a simple click, added to the app they use daily. WebRTC will never be the same.
This is the intriguing question that Greg Zweig recently posed at UC EXPO in London earlier this week. Zweig, the director of solutions marketing at GENBAND, gave a talk this past Wednesday at the conference about using the cloud and WebRTC to combine Lync and embedded communications.
Analysts predict the Asia Pacific (APAC) region will move to the cloud in a big way, with unified communications (UC) solutions moving to the cloud and steadily growing. WebRTC is expected to contribute to growth while vendors start gearing up infrastructure and services in the region. Over the top (OTT) services are also getting a boost in the region as well.
Gartner Research's 2015 Cool Vendors in Unified Communication report has dubbed CafeX Communications to be a Cool Vendor for its effective application of Web real-time communications (WebRTC) in conjunction with mobility features, video and contextual communication technologies to create smoother communication among employees and between employees and customers.
