Having been in and around VoIP for nearly 20 years, I am beginning to wonder if the axioms have grown somewhat long in the tooth, such as Voice is just another app,The price per minute of voice is approaching zero, and The only carrier service is access to the Internet.
At IETF 88 (Nov. 3-8) the gathered masses were H.264 supporters while the diaspora on the web were inclined toward VP8. In an attempt to deal with the issue of "must carry" for video support, the IETF has proposed a rare online vote. To have a voice in the process, though, a company has to be among those that have contributed to the message board, which is a rare occurrence for many of the smaller companies. Also, when messages are read in batch, when fault is found often a dispute has already been raised by someone else (and often more eloquently). As such, a compromise has been set up so that those who have been on the message board but who have not been active can send a note to the working group chairs.
Assemblage recently launched the beta version of the Same.io application, a screen sharing app for the Web. In order to set itself apart from the other applications and services already in the market, Assemblage is throwing some verbal haymakers, while showing off what its application can do in comparison.
Today's consumers access the Internet from a variety of locations, connections, browsers and devices. To be successful on the Internet today, companies have to make sure they are catering websites to perform optimally across all of these different environments.
Cyber Monday is here, and that means many consumers will be spending their day where they usually are - on the Internet. This year's online shopping discount day, which is predicted to reach more than $2 billion in revenue, may see some websites sporting new features, like being able to video chat with customer service representatives.
