CPS Energy—the largest gas and electric combined U.S. municipal utility, based in San Antonio– and Silver Spring Networks, a developer of next-generation infrastructure, have partnered to support San Antonio’s smart grid development, with an initiative that will help drive increased energy efficiency, automate energy distribution, and improve grid reliability.
Through this partnership, CPS Energy and Silver Spring Networks will lay the groundwork to implement smart energy and smart city technology across CPS Energy’s 1,566-square-mile service area. Silver Spring Networks provides a high-performance IPv6-based network that establishes a communications foundation for all of a city’s assets. Its high-bandwidth capabilities enable support for a myriad of solutions— including smart energy metering, smart street lighting, environmental sensors, and smart traffic signals.
The partnership will support San Antonio’s New Energy Economy initiative with a modern, reliable, secure and efficient energy infrastructure built to power the next generation of economic growth and productivity.
